Stunning statement from Ronkonkoma ATC manager
Mike McCormick was the Air Traffic Control manager of New York Center on 9/11. This is the place where the FAA manager Kevin Delaney crunched the tape with the controllers' statements.

Now look what Mike McCormick said:

http://www.public-action.com/911/faa-many-planes/

Unlike the first hijacked plane, American Airlines Flight 11, the second Boeing 767's transponder was working and he knew where it was headed, McCormick said, even before the Newark Airport control tower picked it up visually as it flew south along the Hudson River, turned and headed back toward the twin towers.

Hm. I always thought flight 175 was flying south over Western New Jersey, 50 miles west of the River Hudson.

So which plane did the guys from Newark Airport Tower "pick up visually?"

Maybe this here?

2. Here's the cbs version

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/08/14/attack/main518632.shtml

McCormick said the Boeing 757's transponder was working and he knew where it was headed, even before the Newark Airport Control Tower picked it up visually as it turned and headed back toward the twin towers.

Obviously, cbs dropped the "south along the Hudson River" from the AP message. But it's still funny to read that the Newark controllers watched the plane taking a turn and "heading back" toward the twin towers.

3. I remember a report that said the two planes
crossed paths just north of NYC. This would mean that 11 headed straight in to the North tower while 175 veered west of NYC and then doubled back toward the south tower. So it could indeed have flown south along the Hudson river for a while and been observed visually.

When I read that the two planes crossed paths, I wondered why they didn't both just fly along side each other and hit both towers at the same time. But I could never find any info to indicate exactly where 175 was when it was believed to be hijacked.

Yes, I remember a report, too, that UA 175 made a loop before finally hitting the South Tower. I just read it a few days ago but don't know where.

Flight 175 was hijacked between 8:42 and 8:46 while crossing the NY State/N J border. At 8:41, it was not hijacked yet, as the pilot told the ATC that he heard a "suspicous transmisson" while departing from Boston (points to AA 11). At 8:46, the transponder ceased transmitting.

I think it was important for the brains behind 9/11 that flight 175 would hit some minutes after the first impact to make sure that these horrendous pictures were sent around the world.
