Islamic Jihad kills Palestinian suspected of collaborating with Israel

Militants from the Islamic Jihad on Saturday killed a Palestinian youth suspected of collaborating with Israeli intelligence, the group said.

The body of the 18-year-old youth, identified as Rami al-Malakh, was found outside his village near the West Bank town of Tul Karm.

Residents said Al-Makh had disappeared last night. He was shot to death.

2. There is a long history - back to the 20's at least - of

moderate, pro-western Palestinians getting whacked. Some important clans simply left the region.

Haj Amin al Husayni, who was appointed mufti of Jerusalem by the British (why????) despite the objections of local Arab leadership, was greatly responsible for this as well as for spreading rumors, including blood libel, that resulted in terrible riots and the murders of many innocent Arabs and Jews - including families who had lived in the region since before the Romans came.

The results of this are incalculable. We are still dealing with the darkness then set in motion, to this day.

Faisal, Sherif of Mecca, speaks of this sort of thing - the exploitation of fears and the differences between people for political and personal gain - in his correspondence with Frankfurter, excerpts of which I cited in the Olive Tree thread. He worried about it at the time and truly, it has cost us all dearly. For one thing, Jews and Zionism were demonized, with the help no doubt of European slanders.

Saddest of all to me, the fact that some "intellectuals" on the "left" have adopted this perspective in our own time.

3. 29% Of Israeli Dead Are Females, Versus 2.6% Of Arab Deaths

Between September 30, 2000 and May 30, 2002, thirty-four Palestinian females have been killed out of 1,293 Palestinian deaths - 2.63%.

Between September 30, 2000 and May 30, 2002, 146 Israeli females have been killed out of a total of 501 Israelis deaths - 29%. Nine were female soldiers, none of which were on duty (David and Sara Bedein, Israel Resource News).

In a related story, the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism reports that the numbers of dead in the Al-Aqsa Intifada (c. 1450 Palestinians and 525 Israelis) present a lopsided picture. But, the numbers lump the combatants with noncombatants, and only when the two are segregated, can you get the real picture of the impact on civilians.

First of all, the Palestinian numbers include 185 Palestinian "collaborators" killed by other Palestinians - 1 out of every 8 deaths.

Secondly, Israel is responsible for 568 Palestinian noncombatant deaths, while the Palestinians have targeted 420 Israelis dead. Over 50% of the Palestinians killed were actively involved in fighting - and this does not include stone-throwers and "unknown-cause" deaths.
