4. Israeli missiles kill 14 in Gaza Strip
Israeli missiles have hit the heart of a town in the central Gaza Strip killing 14 people and wounding 40, witnesses and hospital sources said.

Four of those wounded were reported to be in critical condition.

Israeli forces fired into the town of Shijaia and exchanged fire with Palestinian resistance fighters in the area, Palestinian security sources said.

It was still unclear whether the armaments used were surface-to-surface missiles or missiles fired from Apache helicopter gunships.

Hamas "training ground" targeted

At least 14 people have been killed and 20 wounded in an Israeli air strike on an alleged night training exercise by Palestinian fighters in Gaza City.
The Israeli army said its air force targeted a sports field used by the militant group Hamas.

Witnesses reported hearing at least four loud explosions in the east of the city at around midnight (2100 GMT).

Israel vowed to pursue Hamas following attacks in the city of Beersheba last week that killed 16 people.

6. So four or five missiles were necessary to interrupt a training excersise?

7. Possibly
I used to be in the army. A "training exercise" can be a cover for a live mission. One simply changes the status at the last minute.

I'm not saying that was the case here, but a "training camp" sounds like a legitimate target regardless. It's would be a place where soldiers (or whatever) train to make war on Israel. If so, Israel has a right to take action.

8. If so, indeed.
The word from the Palestinians is that it was a youth camp.

Too bad we can't trust most media...it has built a rather healthy dose of doubt in my brain.

9. It's certainly a legitimate target. I'm just not convinced that...

the force used was proportionate.

Is there any information on how many of these 14 were actually Hamas members?

Edit: BBC says they all were. If so it was justified.

10. would it be justified if the Palestinians
managed to bomb an IDF training facility? Just curious? I personally think that if this was a training camp then yep - it's a legit target but then again I think the IDF are also legit targets which doesn't seem to get a lot of recognition here.

11. Yes, Ma'am, It Would Be
Any military facility is a legitimate target.

It was interesting to note that in the video coverage of this, the wounded being extracted from ambulances were clad in camouflage fatigues. This certainly seems to me to be a proper and well-judged strike.
