Report: US military re-supplying Israel with ammunition through Greece
by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

As the Israeli military continues to pound the crowded, impoverished and imprisoned population of the Gaza Strip with the full force of its military might, Israel's strongest ally, the United States, announced plans to ship large amounts of ammunition to the Israeli forces – as it did during Israel's 2006 invasion of Lebanon, when the Israelis ran out of (internationally-banned) cluster bombs, and the US shipped them tens of thousands more.

1. When do Americans plan on waking the fuck up?
How many more people have to die tonight and tomorrow and the day after that? This whole situation is fueled by madness and our tax dollars.

4. I'd like to see a another report on this

Mostly because the idea doesn't even seem all that important. Israel has one of the world's largest armaments industries, it doesn't need another nation to resupply it with ammo, it could just up the production on the billions of dollars worth it's sending to nations like Columbia or India.

Anything to make israel look like a us puppet though right?

Maybe if it was missile specific to american fight planes that israel has purchased, but israel would most likely have a domestic means of producing those.

(edit) woops it's 168 not 20 containers of ammo, sitll doesn't seem like a whole lot, what excatly are in them?

I have two problems with this article aswell.

1. Cluster bombs were most certainly, not banned when israel used them in lebanon
2. I may be hazy on the subject, but are they even banned now? Doesn't the united states and israel (And several other nations) still keep stocks of them?

5. Cluster bombs were not officially banned in the Lebanon campaign
However in May of 2008 there was an international treaty signed in Dublin banning the use of cluster bombs the US and Israel along with China and Russia refused to sign

Cluster bomb ban treaty approved

More than 100 nations have reached an agreement on a treaty which would ban current designs of cluster bombs.

as to the arms transfer as said earlier that was expected as to whether they are a gift or part of a several billion dollar arms deal the US and Israel signed last year I do not know.

6. International implies universally accepted to me
I'm well aware of the treaty, but to call cluster bombs banned in general when only some countries have banned them seems a little strange to me. All I was trying to say is it's not israel is running out of bullets and america is swooping in to rearm the, they have a massive arms industry.

so I guess that is only some as far as Israel's arms while they may not be running out of bullets they may be running out of more specialized arms, not to mention jet fuel. BTW Obama is considering signing on to the treaty once he takes office

Report: US military re-supplying Israel with ammunition through Greece

Thursday January 08, 2009 22:04 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

As the Israeli occupation terrorist forces continue to pound the crowded, impoverished and imprisoned population of the Gaza Strip with the full force of its military might, Israel's strongest ally, the United States, announced plans to ship large amounts of ammunition to the Israeli forces – as it did during Israel's 2006 invasion of Lebanon, when the Israelis ran out of (internationally-banned) cluster bombs, and the US shipped them tens of thousands more.

The US Military Sealift Command on Dec. 31st published a solicitation for bids from shipping companies to ship two boats, each containing 168 TEU's (twenty-foot equivalent container units) of ammunition, from Greece to Israel.

The description of the vessels required was brief:

“Required: Request US or foreign flag container vessel (coaster) to move approximately 168 TEU's in each of two consecutive voyages both containing ammunition.”

Bids were requested by January 5th, but it is unclear whether bids were submitted or a contract awarded as of January 8th.

According to the US Military's solicitation, "Funds are not currently available for this procurement. In the event funds remain unavailable, this procurement will be cancelled without an award being made."

14. "Funds are not currently available for this procurement."
"US military re-supplying Israel with ammunition through Greece."

In other words: The US is making plans, but only making plans, to supply ammunition to Israel. It's called "a contingency"; now if there's information that funding's been procured, that would be a useful fact.

There's also the issue of timing, but first things first.

But, say, isn't Hamas using US-supplied rifles and such these days?
