Since October 2000, hundreds of shooting attacks on
Israeli civilians and soldiers have taken place in
the immediate area around Ramallah, with 25 lethal
attacks killing 28 soldiers, including the three
killed yesterday and 20 civilians.

Seventeen of the soldiers were
killed in attacks on
checkpoints, with the two most
high-profiled incidents being
an attack in Wadi Hermia in
March 2002, when a lone
Palestinian sniper killed 11
Israelis, including eight
soldiers, and the attack on the
Ein Arik checkpoint a month earlier,
when six soldiers were killed.

Of the 48 killed, three died in lynches, 16 by
stationary ambush, 4 in drive-by killings, two
after they were kidnapped, 20 at checkpoints....
