Hezbollah leader accuses Siniora of working with Israel during war
BEIRUT - Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah accused Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Saniora of conniving with Israel during the July-August war, alleging that he ordered the Lebanese army to confiscate Hezbollah's supplies of weapons.

"Didn't the prime minister of Lebanon work to cut off the supply lines?" Nasrallah said in his sharpest attack on Siniora since a United Nations brokered cease-fire halted the fighting in August.

In a rousing speech delivered on huge screens in two central Beirut squares, Nasrallah called for a committee of Lebanese or Arab judges to investigate the government's actions during the war.

Pot. Kettle.

Was this a humor article? Or just one rich in life's little ironies?

3. I'm confused...
Hezbollah is not an official branch of the Lebanese government, right? Israel, if I understand correctly, was fighting with Hezbollah, and a lot of innocent Lebanese were getting killed in the crossfire. The Lebanese government tried to cut off the supply lines of a private army operating in their sovereign land, which would, presumably, bring the battle to a much quicker conclusion, and save more innocent civilians. Wouldn't it be the Lebanese government's responsibility to put the safety of it's citizens as a higher priority than aiding a private military group conducting a war from it's territory? Is Nasrallah really expecting a Lebanese court to rule that the government violated the law, or someone's rights, in doing this?

4. Yes, but Hezbollah is part of the government and has a lot of support
among the Lebanese. Maybe they are campaigning for a larger roll in government.

5. I'm sure they are looking for a larger role...
and IMHO, this is strictly a PR move, but based on his actual request that a Lebanese (or Arab) court look into this, does he seriously believe that a court is going to find the govt. did something illegal here?

6. its not about the law....
its about power politics. Hizballa in itself is an illegal organization in a real court of law (militia...crossing an intl border to kill people... controlled large swarths of lebanese territory -beruit, s. and e. Lebanon)

the court may very well go with them.....if they feel their lives are on the line (which given lebanese politics may very well be)
