Palestinians, at grassroots levels, have little hope that the United States-backed roadmap for peace will end the conflict in the Middle East, says Dr Ekrimah Saeed Sabri, the Grand Mufti (high priest) of Jerusalem and Palestine.
Sabri made a brief visit to Durban after his invitation to Cape Town by the Muslim group Mushid-Al-Quas.
Speaking at the home of the founder of the Islamic Propagation Centre International, Sheik Ahmed Deedat in Verulam, Sabri said the youth of Palestine were not pleased with what he called American involvement.
"We believe the Israeli state is not a just one and that the terms and conditions of the 'roadmap for peace' simply defeat the objectives of the plan," he said.
'Ordinary Palestinians who bear the brunt of the unjust policies'
Through a translator, Sabri said that the peace initiatives were the work of politicians and that ordinary people did not place much belief behind the policies.
