UN chief calls on Palestinian authority to act against terrorism

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, in response to the latest suicide attack in Israel, called on the Palestinian Authority to act against the terrorism.

In a statement released Monday by his spokesman, Annan strongly condemned the latest suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, saying he was deeply concerned that civilians continue to be killed by violence in Israel and in the occupied Palestinian territory.

He called on the Palestinian Authority to take a clear public stand against such unjustifiable acts of terrorism, noting that President Abbas has done so and regretting that the new government has not.

Meanwhile, the secretary-general also called on all parties to abide by their obligations under the international law, and to refrain from actions that further escalate the situation and put civilians at grave risk.

1. Can the Palestinians ask the UN to protect them against terrorism?
Against being starved and sieged and attacked constantly? Just wondering.

2. Last sentence
At least six people were killed and over 40 others were wounded in a suicide bombing attack near the old central bus station in Israel's commercial city of Tel Aviv Monday afternoon.

The hypocrisy of these postings are astonishing.

3.  I am wondering why you are referencing starvation since both
EU and the US aren't cutting humanitarian aid. Also do you see a difference between going after military targets such as kassam launchers and suicide bombers near bus stations and restaurants. If the Palestinian government stopped kassam launchers, suiciders, etc there wouldn't be counter attacks

5. You know, certain Gaza residents sent letters to Hamas
Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 09:34 PM by barb162
very recently to stop the kassams being fired because they are sick of Israeli counter-attacks. They live close to where the kassams are being fired. There are 30,000+ Palestinian cops who I am sure could find the perps shooting off those kassams

6. I'm not sure occupied cops are inclined to help the enemy

7. Well do you think Gaza residents were expecting some protection
from their own side for a change as they knew Israel would retaliate. That the Gazans were wrong to send that letter? The Pal cops should maybe look at the kassam launchers as their enemy too
