legal?

I figure my pump 12 gauge is all the protection I need, so I'm saving my money.

1. I want to attach one to the hood of my car
It will make my commute a little easier, I think.

4. Buy one? I thought they were free?
Isn't Monday the day that the Ice Cream trucks will be chiming past the school yards and playgrounds dolling out Uzi's and AK-47's to all the little chitlins?

All you have to ask for is a "Hot Lead Sundae" and the guy will wink and give you a full-auto (or at least that's what they were saying last night on Nightline).

5. Semantic problems with your question
1. I assume you're talking about firearms that are presently classified as assault weapons.

2. They're legal right now. You can buy a used one if you really want to pay an inflated price.

3. If you really want to own an assault weapon you'd better act quickly, because come September 14 they won't be assault weapons any more.

Just to warn everyone - Once the ban expires I intend to challenge anyone who debates about "assault weapons" to define their terms, if they haven't already done so.

6. Picking Nits: September 13
come September 14 they won't be assault weapons any more.
The ban is repealed as of September 13, 2004, meaning midnight at the beginning of September 13. In other words, September 12, 2004 is the last day on which "assault weapon" will have a legally relevant meaning. After that, all terms must be carefully defined.

7. assault rifle?
I can't afford an "assault rifle," meaning a fully automatic medium or small caliber lightweight rifle. New civilian production was banned in 1986 and the pre-bans are way too expensive now.

I already own an "assault weapon" that will cease to be an "assault weapon" on September 13, 2004.

8. I figure I can just buy one from a terrorist anytime I want...
after all, didn't the Brady Campaign to Lose Elections put out a press release stating terrorists buy them here because it's sooo easy?

But that really doesn't make sense, since the Brady Bunch also states that this law has removed them from the streets and keeps the children safe.

It's just sooooo confusing.

I guess I will just wait until the ban expires, then buy one from a terrorist...maybe they will be having a sale.

9. I bought my ak-47 last year
Newly manufactured in 2002.

Next week, I'll take off the cap that exposes the barrel threads which makes it EVIL.

11. I already have more than I need.
(terminology aside)... I already have a couple of "pre-ban" AWs, and 3 "post-ban" AW's. B-)

MA has it's own ban but, should I ever entertain the idea of picking up another AW, I can just have it shipped from out-of-state to an FFL dealer here (as long is it's a pre-94... should be plenty of them available at bargain prices).

Mags I have plenty of. If I need more it's a quick hop skip and a jump to the NH border to pick up a few (tax free, too! :D)

If I ever hit the Lottery, buying a .50BMG Barrett would definitely be on my Christmas wish list (never know when they'll try to ban those next).

13. Why go out and buy one?
Didn't you hear that "the streets will be flooded" with them in a few days?

Just grab yourself a good broom and shovel and "sweep up" the ones you want. O8)

15. I wont buy one.
I really have no intention of buying one, but I support the legal ownership of said weapons for others, and support the sunsetting of the ban.

If I find one lying in the street (from the flood don'tcha know - that is, if I find one before all the lunatic asswipes who will surely be racing around in farm implements modified to "harvest" them as they accumulate can grab them up), I might plant it in my back yard, then water it,

and see if they will fall from the sky like in the skittles in the commercial!!!

Taste the rainbow!!

16. If I could afford one...
I would buy an M1A with "assault weapon" features.

Since I cant afford an M1A that wont happen anytime soon.

I'll buy some full capacity Glock magazines though.

17. They have always been legal
As long as they were made before Sep 1994. They will just be more affordable now.
