NYC to NRA: "Piss off, loonies!"
Surprised that none of our "pro gun democrats" is discussing the issue that has so much of the trigger happy world in an uproar lately...

Seems the New York City Council (mostly liberal Democrats) passed a resolution: "...calling upon the Republican National Committee to repudiate the irresponsible and dangerous policies of the National Rifle Association; and further calling upon the Republican National Committee to denounce the intolerant and inflammatory comments made by members of the National Rifle Association leadership that are offensive to many communities that bring to the City the diversity that ensures its vibrancy. "

http://www.nyccouncil.info/issues/bill_details.cfm?ID=Res%200011-2004&TYPE=all&YEAR=2004&SPONSORS=YES&REPORTS=YES&HISTORY=YES

The NRA is having a snit over it, the National Review is pissing and moaning, Michelle "Concetration Camp" Malkin has even stopped plugging her odious book to snivel, and even the VDare folks have stopped their usual racist activities to point out how unfair this is....

1. This is news?
I could form a "council" and make a resolution to "denounce anyone stealing the good name of Mr. Peter Benchley, noted underwater horror novelist."

My "resolution" wouldn't be any more sensible or newsworthy.

3. you could form a council, but um, it wouldnt be quite the same as the
NEW YORK CITY council. these aren't just random forum posters, they're prominent city members.

4. The posters that post the most about the NRA are the ones
that fall to some degree into the anti-gun camp. Those that are more in the pro-gun camp post more about the VPC and related organizations. It is kind of funny. :)

Someone should check and see if the mail for the VPC and the NRA is not all going to the same address. :)

5. I havent seen much
cheerleading for the NRA around here, but I am fairly new. Who is on board with the NRA, or how many pro RKBA'ers I wonder? I dont think their membership is significant when compared to total number of gun owners. I think throwing all of us in with the NRA is just a weak "guilt by association" attempt.

Clearly the NRA "claims" to represent gun owners' rights but I just dont see anything but political pandering, much like we see on the other side. I think they are a milquetoast answer to what gun owners need. Perhaps what we need is a "truley" representative advocacy group that upholds gun rights over partisan ideology?

Just a thought.

6. I know some people here that are members of the NRA but I
don't know of any that are rabidly (think foam) excited about being a member. They just "hire" them to do things that they most often support. I thought about joining just to get the little sticker so I could put it on the rear window of my Blazer, along with my other stickers, just to make people scratch their heads in wonder. :)

If I could ever let myself fall to the dark side, I would start an anti-gun group because the money is good and the work is minimal; it is easy to find "results" or issues that will bring in the dough. :)

7. No doubt there
Sarah brady makes a handsome salary from all her "non profit" work. And there seems to be no shortage of people who excitedly hand over their hard earned dollars just for the privelege of being spoon fed anti gun propaganda. Nice little scam they have going. Too bad it isnt producing any significant results. Well, except for that one guy who didnt pass the background check...good thing it only cost a few million to keep him away from guns.

8. If I wanted to start an anti-gun group I would have to leave Texas
and go into that Great Dark Area north of the Panhandle so it ain't gonna happen. :)
