City Looks To Crack Down on Gun Seeking Car Burglars
http://www.fox2now.com/news/ktvi-city-looks-to-crack-down-on-gun-seeking-car-burglars-20110628,0,6695911.story

The city is set to impose tough new regulations on parking lots following a series of car break-ins at nine different parking lots Friday night in which at least one handgun was stolen. Starting in August, every parking lot in the city will be required to have a parking lot attendant that stays at the lot until the parking lot is empty. Right now, attendants usually only stay until money is collected and the lot fills.

"That's what happened Friday night," said Mayor Francis Slay. "There were no attendants at these parking lots to notify police that something suspicious is going on. So we're issuing new rules about parking lots that requires attendants to be on duty until the event or events end and everyone is safely back in their car."

Giving added impetus to the regulations was a break-in at one parking lot where numerous cars were ransacked, but nothing was taken, except a handgun.

"A lot of times when you see a spree like this in a parking lot, they're looking for guns," said St. Louis Police Captain Mike Caruso, commander of the city's Ninth Police District. "When you see multiple cars targeted, quite often they're searching for firearms, and in this case, they found one."

but...but...but... The GOP/NRA wants more guns in more cars in more parking lots

to deter Teh Urban Thugs and protect Teh Freedom

nevermind

yup

2. No, what's really funny...
...is that neither of you seem to get exactly what group wishes to force concealed carry permit holders to leave their guns in their car in the first place by placing restrictions on where they can and cant carry, in spite of all the evidence available showing that such permit holders are significantly less likely to commit a crime than the general population.

You and the Brady Campaign create a situation that makes this problem worse, then blame it on the permit holders. THAT is what is really funny.

9. You can get my posts deleted, but you'll never change the truth
you make things worse, not better and your agenda to allow people to carry anywhere, is reckless, and irresponsible. Now go tattle tail on me.

13. Vermont has had uncontrolled concealed carry for over 200 years. Try again....
I guess that GOP/NRA junta that we all 'know' runs the Green Mountain State has suppressed all knowledge of the vicious gang wars

in Bennington and the mass murders on the ski slopes....

15. You take yourself WAY too seriously.
You don't have a monopoly on the truth, and there's no reason you shouldn't have to conform to the same code of conduct as everyone else in this forum. Quit whining.

16. I didn't report you...
...because honestly, your angry, spittle ridden rants do more to help my cause than hurt it. Your version of "the truth" is so out of whack with reality that it's not even funny.

3. I wondered if this might happen
With more "gun rights" advocates pushing legislation for looser restrictions (including conceal and carry) and more businesses, public institutions, and government buildings putting up that "no guns allowed" decal, I wondered if we would see more thefts of guns from cars since the drivers/owners would have to leave them inside to go into the "no guns allowed" buildings.

12. Well, those can be worse than bars
Ask the police how bad it can get when the parents go to fight for their kids tokens after a few too many rounds of wine from a spigot.

11. Once again you read too much into the story...
Your entire surmise is based on one gun being stolen out of 62 cars. And how do we know that the gun was the only item stolen?

Information from another source:

Police Capt. Michael Caruso said Saturday that the weekend break-ins appeared to be the work of two separate groups of two to three thieves each. They have descriptions of the suspects' cars — a black Ford Fusion and silver Dodge Intrepid — but so far no arrests have been made.

The break-ins occurred overnight Friday night into Saturday.

Caruso said one group tended to smash windows and grab anything in sight. The second group used a screwdriver to punch under the lock. In some cases, the cars were just vandalized. In most, items ranging from purses to GPS units were stolen.
