Radio Shack gives away firearms ...

Radio Shack Gun Giveaway: Montana Store Offers Free Firearm With Dish Network Purchase
First Posted: 03/27/11 12:19 AM Updated: 03/27/11 12:24 AM

The Radio Shack store in Hamilton, Montana knows how to get customers' attention.

Since October, the franchise has been offering free guns to anyone who purchases Dish Network. And the promotion has been wildly successful--proprietor Steve Strand says business has tripled since its inception.

***snip***

Before claiming their firearm, customers much undergo a background check. They are then given a gift certificate to Frontier Guns & Ammo, a nearby gun supply store. Those who don't qualify or prefer to opt-out of the giveaway receive a $50 coupon to Pizza Hut.

A sign outside the store proclaims, "Protect yourself with the Dish Network. Sign up now, get a free gun." According to Strand, hundreds have come into his shop because of the advertisement, and store manager Fabian Levy told the Republic that people stop by just to take pictures of the sign.

Sounds like they are also being responsible about it.

2. Yeah-sounded for a minute there they just had a big barrel full of guns and let you pick one out...
Actually, Sears in Allentown, PA did that before the Gun Control Act of 1968...with WWII surplus British Enfield rifles...IIRC, they were about $25 each.

3. Bought an Enfield Mk5 Jungle Carbine out of a barrel in 1963
In a little antique store along the Mississippi when I took a weekend off from college.

I wandered in to check out some old woodworking tools (molding planes) they had in the window and right next to the register was literally a wooden barrel with muzzles sticking out. The cone shaped flash hider caught my attention and for $31, including tax, I bought one that was in pretty decent shape. The owner told me it would be hard to find the .303 ammo for it. Today it's pretty easy to find, the action is a glass smooth as any Enfield and I love the micrometer adjustable peep sight, but it still kicks like a mule.

For some reason I never got the urge to go back and shoot up the college, even with the rifle in the closet.

4. Great that you still have it! Jungle Carbines run around $500 now for a real one...
I have an Enfield up in my workshop that I am making into a carbine like thing. They are great rifles and still around...there were almost 3 million of them made since WWI.
