Palm Beach County Commissioner Burt Aaronson said Wednesday he thinks state lawmakers should embrace the county's call for banning gun clips containing more than 15 rounds - especially following U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' shooting earlier this year.

But the legislation, proposed by Rep. Lori Berman and Sen. Maria Sachs, both Delray Beach Democrats, faces long odds in a Republican legislature filled with lawmakers elected with the backing of the National Rifle Association.

"You know, a TV commentator has said, 'the first 10 rounds, blame the person, the next 21 rounds, you should blame the law,' " said Aaronson, who joined Berman and Sachs at a Capitol news conference to promote the legislation, which has not been scheduled for a hearing.

The measure (HB 1335) that Berman filed Monday would limit the sale or transfer of high-volume ammunition devices with a capacity greater than 15 bullets.

10. And the Westboro Baptist Church school of gun control is heard from.
It's a moral crusade. Gotcha.

Let us know when you plan to bust out the "God Hates Guns" signs, so we can get some pics...

6. Lol this is a joke. Maybe a dictator like qadaffi would have better luck limiting mag capacity

To the public

You might have better luck on advancing you anti civil liberty agenda if you first convert the USA into a dictatorship like lybia or Egypt

8. ummm...what good is a Glock or AK with a 30 round mag against armor, artillery and aircraft?
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 02:07 PM by jpak
or even with a 30000000000000 round capacity clip?

none

The Libyan rebels need anti-tank & anti-aircraft missiles and mortars - not Glocks with 30 round clips

yup

12. But the libyan rebels are just civilians
meaning that if you handed them any gun they would immediately shoot themselves or some innocent bystander, or the Libyan army would just take it away from them and use it against the rebels.

So why give them missiles and artillery?

7. Arbitrary limit seems ok I guess, but I don't understand what this is supposed to solve.
Loughner may have been inhibited from reloading due to a malfunctioning mag. (the higher cap mags have very strong mainsprings, and are prone to failure. (This is why the military doesn't use them, outside a single applicaiton for a machine pistol glock 18)

9. Don't you know that the victims of spree killers are less dead if the shooter has to reload.
Hey, that's at least as logical as any other argument against >10 round magazines I've seen...

11. This is important, because as we all know
it takes 16 direct hits to kill a person.
