N.H. bills would end gun license requirement (New Hampshire constitutional carry)
CONCORD — Competing bills have been filed to eliminate New Hampshire's license requirement for carrying concealed weapons, dividing the pro-gun community.

Some are lining up behind state Rep. J.R. Hoell, a Dunbarton Republican, and others behind state Rep. Jennifer Coffey, a Republican from Andover.

Both of their bills allow anyone to carry a firearm openly or concealed, loaded or unloaded, with or without a license. Coffey's bill also removes the requirement that nonresidents obtain a license to possess a firearm while in New Hampshire.

House Speaker William O'Brien, House Republican Leader D.J. Bettencourt, Senate Republican Leader Jeb Bradley and others who back Coffey's bill said it is not as extreme as Hoell's bill.

O'Brien, R-Mont Vernon, said last week he was disappointed he couldn't persuade Hoell to withdraw his bill, which Hoell said deserves a hearing.

"While I am a strong advocate for the state and federal constitutional right to own and carry firearms, including the right of constitutional carry, this legislation vastly exceeds any reasonable standard of an individual's right to bear arms," O'Brien said in a statement. "This bill would make New Hampshire less safe and would create an unacceptable risk for our citizens."

All those lefties and progressives in the Green Mountain State are free to carry handguns without checking in with the authorities

first, if they so wish. And they don't seem at all inclined to change the law in order to suit your delicate sensibilities.

I know, that's just unpossible, etc....

But that's the truth. Sorry it harshes your mellow.

2. Gimme a break
Since when did Republicans start caring about "unacceptable risks for our citizens?"

They'd march by the thousands to protest unacceptable risks to Remington or Colt,
but individual citizens? I stopped believing in the Tooth Fairy long ago, even if
New Hampshire Republicans have not.

12. Jpac has no shortage of bigoted statements against groups of people who are different from him.
He/she never fails to insult that which he/she does not understand. Being against a political group is healthy but having to attack them with profanity and using loose associations hints at a psych problem.

26. Doesn't mean they aren't regular people with different political views. You fear and hate of them
Is similar to the same fear and hate that brought about the death of 6 million Jews in WW2. Imagine if 90% of the people felt just as ambivalent as you about these groups, perhaps you'd start putting them in concentration camps.

11. They need to protect themselves from the wild, armed Vermont crowd.
With all those crazy, armed and unlicensed Vermont people, all GOP I assume, since only GOP people own guns in Vermont from what I read around here. They have every right to defend themselves.

Next thing you know you'll have blood in the streets of Nashua and Gloucester. It will be as bloody as Montpelier is on any given Friday night. Stop the madness now.

15. I'm really of two minds on this.
I understand the constitutional issue and do agree with that. However, I do not believe that it is unreasonable to require a person that wants to carry in public to show competency and knowledge of the laws on force. A renewal period of 5 years also sounds reasonable to me.

I did say that I understand completely the line of reasoning that a person should demonstrate competency and knowledge of the laws on force to carry a firearm in public.

20. No permit is needed to carry a gun in public in most of America
Are you aware that in the (geographic) majority of this country no permit what ever is required to carry a firearm? The permit is to conceal it (putting on a jacket) . Yet , I don't see constant news stories about law abiding gun owners haveing NDs or blowing their feet off at Starbucks.

I'm all for individuals who violate basic safety rules being punished but why should an entire class be preemptively made to pay for the crimes of the few?

24. Like I said. I'm of two minds on that.
You have very valid points, there is no doubt about that. I've carried a gun with a Texas CHL since 1995 - was in my instructors second class and was one of the POed ones that felt jipped when TX decided to wait until the day the law went into affect to send out the licenses. I'm saying that I understand the requirement that for a person to carry a gun in public they show basic competency and knowledge on the laws of force. (police do and I'm glad for that)

I see that you do not agree with that, you will never agree with that and we can go back and forth all day long and never get anywhere. I really do understand your position - I also understand the other.

35. After reading your post it occurred to me
That my objection is based on the fact that in order to ensure that everyone that carries a gun in public has demonstrated competency we'd have to require permits for OC as well as CC.

Not trying to carry on an argument just pointing that out
