I wish all the guns would go away.
If all the guns could go away, that would mean that we would never have to defend ourselves against others. Hate and fear would have been banished from our lives. Greed and envy would have been overcome and we would treat others with the respect and compassion they deserve.

But it hasn't happened yet. I doubt that it will.

1. You're funny
that would mean that we would never have to defend ourselves against others.

As if knives, bats, crowbars, boards, scissors, screwdrivers, hammers, vases and so on won't be used.

Bad guys have been doing bad sh*t since humans first stood up on two legs and started throwing rocks at each other. Murders would still occur, only the method would change.

2. Oh yeah. I left those out.
The worst we should have to worry about is someone sending us bad karma. Or spam.

8. The g code for the 1911, sigs, and of course AK
are out there. I always wondered what an AK machined by from 416 would do. Of course a nice button rifled barrel would work.

Would take me about a week and half a million in machine tools to set up a line that would rival colts or HK's.

If they all went away I could sell some very nice replacements.

Everything would be wilson combat custom shop quality.

is far more complicated than a 1940's design rifle..

BTW your dream is bullshit, maybe you can dream of a place without the right to free speech or legal council.

15. You need share what you are smoking since its seriously disconnected you from reality
Edited on Sat Apr-24-10 05:00 PM by ProgressiveProfessor
Guns were invented in no small part to allow us to defend ourselves from others
Guns are used to protect the smaller and weaker members of our society against the predators
Greed and envy are part of the human condition and firearms have nothing to do with them
Trust, respect, and compassion are not dependent on firearms, in fact the reverse is true to some extent.

Its good thing it will never happen

If all the guns went away, that would mean that we will have reached an enlightened state of awareness. Probably something to do with quantum consciousness. Oh, wait. That's another forum.

17. You forget the fundamental underpinning of all of this is scarcity and need
If everyone has enough food to eat, a decent place to call home, and work important enough to them to keep them engaged, the need for personal weapons for defensive purposes goes away. Hobbyists may have them, but as a critical part of the social fabric they would no longer be needed.

Look up Child of Yesteryear by Hogan. Its an and interesting scifi book which postulates what happens in a society where there is no scarcity.

18. Yeah,
This thread was obviously not started with any serious intent. But y'know, even if we achieve the level of societal parity we all deserve as human beings, there will always be the odd sociopath about.

The seven deadly sins are as much a part of us as the seven godly virtues. We are far from perfect, even in a world of plenty.

19. The U.K. has very strict firearm regulation ...
and yet has a higher level of violent crime than the U.S.

The most violent country in Europe: Britain is also worse than South Africa and U.S.

By James Slack
Last updated at 12:14 AM on 3rd July 2009

Britain's violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed.

Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world's most dangerous countries.

***snip***

* The UK has the second highest overall crime rate in the EU.
* It has a higher homicide rate than most of our western European neighbours, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
* The UK has the fifth highest robbery rate in the EU.
* It has the fourth highest burglary rate and the highest absolute number of burglaries in the EU, with double the number of offences than recorded in Germany and France.

But it is the naming of Britain as the most violent country in the EU that is most shocking. The analysis is based on the number of crimes per 100,000 residents.

In the UK, there are 2,034 offences per 100,000 people, way ahead of second-placed Austria with a rate of 1,677.

The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 92 and South Africa 1,609.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling said: 'This is a damning indictment of this government's comprehensive failure over more than a decade to tackle the deep rooted social problems in our society, and the knock on effect on crime and anti-social behaviour.

it's hard to throw frivolity into this forum without giving people a little warning.

Here's the thread that started this shit if you're interested.

But that's nothing new around here. I've been farting here for over a year and the bulk of my posts have been in the guns forum. I have yet to hear a rational anti gun argument or a viable proposal for replacing guns. Not one. I signed up here ready to have my mind changed, and I've heard little else but sarcasm, insults, and bigoted caricatures. No wonder we're up to our asses in Republicans.

23. Not if
you are in a bubble behind the walls of a gated community. There, everyone uses the correct fork and violence is dealt with by others hired for that purpose. The secret is in outsourcing and proper risk distribution.
