Donald Wyatt, who police said shot his wife in the head in their home this week, was taken to the Middletown City Jail on Wednesday, Feb. 24, where he was booked on charges that include murder. Wyatt, 41, was released from Atrium Medical Center at 10 a.m. Wednesday, where he was taken Monday afternoon following the shooting at 813 S. First St., Trenton police Chief Tim Traud said.
Once Wyatt was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Trenton Division of Police for interviewing when he asked for an attorney, according to Traud.
On Tuesday, police filed murder charges and issued an arrest warrant for Wyatt in the shooting, according to court records. He also is charged with felonious assault, child endangerment and obstruction of official business, according to Middletown Municipal Court. Arraignment is set for 10 a.m. today, Feb. 25.
Rhonda Wyatt’s death has been ruled a homicide. The 32-year-old mother of three children — ages 15, 9 and 3 — died of a fractured skull from a single gunshot to the head from a .357 Magnum, said Debbie Lacey, a Butler County coroner’s investigator. Trenton resident Chad Johnson said he is spearheading the organizing of a candlelight vigil for the woman after hearing about the children left behind.
“It hit home. I have children close in age to her three,” Johnson said. He and his wife left flowers and balloons in front of the Wyatt home Tuesday night. Police were dispatched to the address after a child called 911 at 3:15 p.m. and asked for help before hanging up.
