CCW Permit Holder Stops Mass Murder In Progress
Three Men Killed in Winnemucca Shooting on Sunday

Deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office are investigating a shooting in Winnemucca early Sunday morning that left three people dead and others injured.

The shooting happened at the Player's Bar & Grill on South Grass Valley Road.

Investigators say a feud between two local families is behind the early-morning shooting inside the bar. Three men from Winnemucca died from gunshot wounds, and two others are in critical condition at the hospital.

Deputies say about 2:25 a.m., 30-year-old Ernesto Villa Gomez walked into the bar and starting shooting. 20-year-old Jose Torres and his 19-year-old brother Margarito Torres were killed. When Villa Gomez was reloading his semi-automatic gun, a man from Reno took out a gun and shot Villa Gomez. That man has a concealed weapons permit.

I know this story was from last year, I finally found an actual news story on it. So there are a few issues here. How is it possible that this story got absolutely no attention from the national media? Does anyone have any follow up? Was the CCW permit holder acting within the law i.e. gun in bar in Nevada? They called it a justifiable homicide initially.

1. "How is it possible that this story got absolutely no attention from the national media?"
Because someone using a gun to responsibly isn't a good story.

2. I suspect you are correct.
Had it been a cop we'd still be hearing about it.

4. I agree
Plus no one else got shot and the CHL holder turned out to be a great shot. Don't forget no children got shot as well.

3. The media will NEVER run stories like that.
Just like they will fail to tell the public that school shootings have NEVER been stopped by law enforcement. Not ONCE! The killers either shoot themselves or are stopped by the public with privately owned firearms or by brute force. I was there for one shooting and saw it myself in Penn State back in '96. So I know a thing or two.

Yet the media will continue to trot out the false claim that "gun free" zones are magically safer; when in reality it makes them targets. That somehow being completely unarmed and defenseless makes us "safer". As if being a victim was somehow morally superior to defending yourself.

7. Nevada concealed carry law...
Where Can I Not Carry Concealed?

As a permittee, it is illegal for you to carry firearms while on the premises of a public airport, public school or university, or public building with a metal detector at the door or a sign informing you that concealed firearms or weapons are prohibited, unless you have written permission to carry on those premises. A public building includes buildings and premises of the Federal, State, and local governments or school districts.

http://www.gonv.org/ccw.htm

NRS 202.3673 Permittee authorized to carry concealed firearm while on premises of public building; exceptions; penalty.

1. Except as otherwise provided in subsections 2 and 3, a permittee may carry a concealed firearm while he is on the premises of any public building.

2. A permittee shall not carry a concealed firearm while he is on the premises of a public building that is located on the property of a public airport.

3. A permittee shall not carry a concealed firearm while he is on the premises of:

(a) A public building that is located on the property of a public school or a child care facility or the property of the Nevada System of Higher Education, unless the permittee has obtained written permission to carry a concealed firearm while he is on the premises of the public building pursuant to subparagraph (3) of paragraph (a) of subsection 3 of NRS 202.265.

(b) A public building that has a metal detector at each public entrance or a sign posted at each public entrance indicating that no firearms are allowed in the building, unless the permittee is not prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm while he is on the premises of the public building pursuant to subsection 4.

http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-202.html#NRS202Sec3653

I can't find any prohibition against licensed concealed carry in a bar in Nevada.

8. longer article

http://elkodaily.com/articles/2008/05/26/news/breaking_news/breaking1.txt

"The bystander was identified only as a 48-year-old Reno man with a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon. Authorities confirmed he was a U.S. Marine, but it was not clear whether he was on active duty or had finished his term of service.

After a conference with Humboldt County District Attorney Russell Smith, the shooting was determined to be justifiable homicide and the man was released without charges."

11. Sadly, I think this got little attention for two reasons
Not sure of rank order but

1. might be that it was a defensive use by a CCW holder.

and/or

A. that the subjects of the event were of Hispanic origin. If it had been in shopping mall and they were pretty white girls then you might have seen it on CNN for days.
