from living in 2 college towns, I've never known anyone who had a problem with the constabulary over guns. Perhaps -- just speculating -- law enforcement realizes that the really bad crime happens in sufficiently well-defined (statistically and geographically) locations, and that someone who wants to protect him/her self is making a personal decision, not a social statement; in fact, the right to keep and BEAR arms is preeminently about self-defense, where thus far all tales come from the Land of Anecdote.

4. It probably depends on where you live.

I live in Florida where CCW is common. I've never met a police officer who was opposed to licensed citizens carrying concealed.

A police officer who lives in a state with restrictive gun laws would only be exposed to criminals with weapons. His opinions would be based on his personal experience.

Two years ago, I was stopped in Tampa for an expired license tag. I gave the officer my drivers license, registration, insurance card and my CCW license. He merely glanced at it. He never asked me if I had a weapon on my person (which I did). We had a polite exchange. I doubt he had any concern about my having a CCW permit or that he was talking to an armed citizen.

When you live in Florida you learn that it's not people with weapons that are the problem. it's the BAD people with weapons.
