Handcuffed. Standing subdued. Tased 5th time. Video. Your Fired?
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 02:23 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two police officers could lose their jobs because of the way they used a Taser during an arrest last summer.

A videotape from an in-car police camera showed a suspect -- who was in handcuffs -- being Tased for the fifth time during an arrest in August 2004.

Kansas City Police Chief James Corwin called it excessive force and recommended that the men be fired, which is the first time that's happened since Kansas City police started using Tasers last year.

"I was convinced we'd just punished a prisoner in our custody," said Corwin. The officers said they were using the Taser as instructed against a combative man.

It's the PUNISHMENT line that really drives it home for me. Since when do LEO get to punish? This was a "wild bunch" that ought to be corralled.

1. I was thinking that too
it's not the cops job to punish. That is the courts job.

And I'm convinced that that statement is an admission of guilt.

Case CLOSED.

Edit: Watched it 2nd time; it was the CHIEF who said that,
not one of the officers involved; and I believe he said
"CONCERNED" rather than "CONVINCED".

9. I'd give them 20 years in prison for this.

and for this, our men and women in uniform are giving their lives for. :wtf:?

I have more respect for the military than I do the average Cop these days. I feel this way at this time.

Once a suspect is in CUSTODY and is CALM, you have NO RIGHT to use force against them.

David Easley and Matthew Howel are no better than Hitler's SS and Stalin's Gulag.

-edit-

New Britain Connecticut (my State) has issued Tasers to it's police force and they may be used if you ignore a verbal command. :wtf:? My state has them too now.

10. Police Abuses
It is a FACT, that when you give the police more power, some tend to ABUSE it.

I.E. Semi-automatic rifles, Fast Cars, Tazers… The list goes “on and on”

Here are some more recent “cop abuses”, from the past couple of days

You know the ones you don’t hear about…..

11. I don't know if we'll get a conviction. I hope so.
Some police are good and some are bad. I guess they are a "neccisary evil".

Some police need to be reigned in. Their job is to keep the peace, not incite fear into society.
