Description:

Three workers have been sent to the hospital after an explosion and fire at a ceramics plant in Henderson County.

About ten homes near the Greenleaf Corporation factory at East Flat Rock were evacuated for about two hours yesterday afternoon as a precaution.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the flames.the plant makes industrial ceramics and cutting tools.Emergency management director Rocky Hyder says the fire involved the chemical hexane, a flammable gas used in the production of ceramic cutting tools.The wind dissipated the chemical and air quality is not thought to have been at risk.

The company has fewer than 20 employees.
