Update: Package Found at Polk School in Chattanooga , Tennessee a "Hoax"
Polk County school officials dismissed classes for the day after a suspicious package was found at Polk County High School.

A statement released by the school superintendent says a bag was found at 10:45am with a stop watch wrapped around on the outside. Administrators evacuated the school and members of the Chattanooga police squad were called in. Officers examined the package and found it was a hoax, containing an empty box

Since the high school shares buses with other local schools, classes were dismissed for the day for all Benton area schools. School officials say classes will be held tomorrow.

A suspicious package located inside a restroom at Polk County High School sent administrators, law enforcement and emergency managers into action Tuesday morning.

Students were safely evacuated and the package was destroyed, according to Polk County Sheriff Bill Davis.

At 10:15 a.m., Polk sheriff’s officials received notification of a suspicious package at the school. Sheriff Davis and others responded to begin an investigation.

The sheriff said the package had been removed from the girls’ restroom and taken to the administrator’s office.

“The package appeared to have wires and a solenoid,” said Sheriff Davis. The device was not explosive.

Traffic along Highway 411 just outside of the city limits of Benton was choked at times during the operation. Tennessee Department of Transportation helped motorists through the congested area.
