From The "N For 'No Shit!'" File - Obama Tells Students They Face Tough Climate Challenges
Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 01:12 PM by hatrack
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing young people, President Obama said in a recent interview with young reporters from Scholastic News.

“Another big challenge that your generation is going to face is the environmental challenge,” Obama said in an interview with Scholastic News Press Corp. that was conducted in July but posted online this month.

“Although we’ve made big improvements over the last 20 or 30 years in making our air clean and our water clean, there are some big challenges around climate change.”

EDIT

“So we’ve got to get started trying to deal with this issue and we’ve got to make sure that your generation finds better ways to use energy more efficiently so we’re not sending out as much pollution into the air,” Obama said. “So that’s going to be something that we’re really going to have to focus on.”

1. Well yeah....No Shit!

The Kochs are longtime libertarians who believe in drastically lower personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services for the needy, and much less oversight of industry—especially environmental regulation. These views dovetail with the brothers’ corporate interests. In a study released this spring, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst’s Political Economy Research Institute named Koch Industries one of the top ten air polluters in the United States. And Greenpeace issued a report identifying the company as a “kingpin of climate science denial.” The report showed that, from 2005 to 2008, the Kochs vastly outdid ExxonMobil in giving money to organizations fighting legislation related to climate change, underwriting a huge network of foundations, think tanks, and political front groups. Indeed, the brothers have funded opposition campaigns against so many Obama Administration policies—from health-care reform to the economic-stimulus program—that, in political circles, their ideological network is known as the Kochtopus.

The Republican campaign consultant said of the family’s political activities, “To call them under the radar is an understatement. They are underground!” Another former Koch adviser said, “They’re smart. This right-wing, redneck stuff works for them. They see this as a way to get things done without getting dirty themselves.” Rob Stein, a Democratic political strategist who has studied the conservative movement’s finances, said that the Kochs are “at the epicenter of the anti-Obama movement. But it’s not just about Obama. They would have done the same to Hillary Clinton. They did the same with Bill Clinton. They are out to destroy progressivism.”

If the young folks truly care, they need to get strong, and understand that it ain't about one man and one he can or cannot do, as much as it is about what we say we care about, and based on that, what we need to do.

2. I support Obama on this issue
If Perry is elected, our policy on climate change will be to take away rights from gays so God won't punish us with hurricanes and floods and earthquakes.

Of course, if Perry is elected, funds for weather predictions will be cut as will funds for rebuilding after natural disasters. Perry's philosophy is that every person should be responsible for himself and that science is a fraud perpetuated by scientists trying to make a buck.
