Obama urges Dems to compromise on warming

Jennifer A. Dlouhy, Hearst Newspapers

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

(05-06) 04:00 PDT Washington - --

President Obama tried to spur action on a broad energy and climate change proposal Tuesday by urging key congressional Democrats to accept political compromises that would soften the potential cost to consumers.

Obama issued the directive while huddling with Vice President Joe Biden and more than two dozen Democrats from the House Energy and Commerce Committee in the White House's state dining room.

During the closed-door meeting, Obama urged lawmakers to include compensation for consumers and groups that would face higher energy costs under any plan to cap greenhouse gas emissions blamed for climate change.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the president also told the group to consider "the regional impact" and the "trade-sensitive industries" that "need to be protected" in any climate change plan.

3. Dear President Obama
With all due respect, the Dems won the election. So if anyone needs to compromise it's the Repubs. So please, stop with all the compromise talk already.

4. "…if anyone needs to compromise it's the Repubs…"
It's not a "compromise" unless both sides give in a bit.

You seem to have the wrong end of the stick.
"Trade-sensitive industries" do NOT need to be protected at the
cost of an effective climate change plan.

The climate change plan comes first, above all else, otherwise
the "regional impact" will be a fucking sight larger than a dip
in your polling figures or a loss of bribes campaign contributions.

7. Congressional Dems are already so flexible
they can barely walk upright. Urging them to compromise is likely to result in complete capitulation.
