Europe advises Asean against nuclear energy

BRUSSELS : The European Union (EU) has advised the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to go for cheaper and less risky renewable energy rather than nuclear power.

Ferran Tarradellas Espuny, a spokesman for the Energy Commissioner, said that Europe was serious about developing renewable energy resources and added that within a decade European companies would be world leaders in the field.

"Now it is relying on two factors: the economy of scale and technological development," the spokesman said in a meeting with Asean journalists.

"But it will not be too long before the demand for RES gets to the level where the cost of production will be offset by the high demand and abundant supply."

I still have no answers for the question, what to do with the waste, that I've been asking for over 40 years. approaches everywhere, relies wholly on selective attention, mysticism and contempt for science.

There are ZERO anti-nukes who give a rat's ass about the chemistry of physics of dangerous fossil fuel waste, and zero anti-nukes who are aware of the chemistry of the actinides or fission products. Their fetish for so called nuclear waste is completely a function of their deliberate ignorance.

Like fundies announcing the ever imminent arrival of Jesus - but can produce no phenomenological evidence of Jesus - the anti-nuke cults announce the imminence of nuclear tragedies of which they can produce no evidence.

The faith based anti-nuke cults on this website have, in my more than six years of putting up with their indifference to and contempt for science, never have been able to produce a case of a single person injured by used nuclear fuel in this country.

The same cretins couldn't give a rat's ass about the many hundreds of thousands of people who die each year from dangerous fossil fuel waste.

In a few years, as dangerous natural gas goes into short supply, the only country in Europe that will have the majority of its lights on will be France. The ignorant, the stupid, the misinformed freaks of the anti-nuke cults will be like a bunch of Repukes talking about banks, lying and denying their ineffably contemptible immoral and delusional responsibility, all of it based on cartoonish and illiterate readings of pop press.

This is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Slash rainforest, burn the wood, plant in a monoculture of palm trees, let the peat-muck soils burn off stored carbon, palm oil turned into diesel to be burned. We lose a carbon sink (a healthy forest) and add 4 carbon sources (slashed wood, organic matter in soil converted to co2, peat fires, biofuel burnt). GREAT idea guys ... :eyes: Oh yeah, and fuel the trucks, factories, and ocean tankers neeeded to produce and transport all this oil.
