Breaking the political logjam on climate change
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 11:26 AM by ElectricGrid
But even Pickens will have to battle entrenched energy special interests that have long stymied the environmental movement. Since 1990, donors associated with the oil and gas industries gave $220.4 million to politicians running for office, compared to just $3.4 million from donors connected to alternative energy production and services firms. In our political system, where private funding buys political influence, alternative energy advocates simply lacked the clout to get Congress to support renewables. Even with Pickens on their side, the green movement cannot hope to compete in the pay-to-play system of campaign financing.

1. Too late, anyway.
Our cowardly capitulation to capitalism has pushed this planet over the point of no return, environmentally.

Look at the air in China. That is what we have to look forward to, and much worse. Anthropogenic warming will finish the job.

You'll have to excuse me, I have deck chairs to rearrange.

2. IF we are doomed why are you on here?
go hang out with you family or do something fun with our remaining few days on earth.

It's never too late for action. Now is the time to pull together not fall apart. Nature is remarkably adaptive, if we can stop our exploits good things will happen.

3. Sorry, I'm too busy working for my client, A GREEN ENERGY COMPANY,
to reply to your message. Heh.

DU is merely on in the background as I do real work.

I grow my own vegetables, ride a bike instead of drive a car, live without air conditioning, and have been a vegan for 35 years. Plus, I snowboard every day there is snow available. So, I'm doing quite a bit to quixotically try to save the planet and have an enjoyable life while rome burns.

Nature is super adaptive and will adapt to a post human world quite easily, you are correct. But even if we stop our "exploits" immediately the ongoing fallout of our hubris will exterminate us fairly quickly.
