Nuclear trade group (Nuclear Energy Institute) spent $1.3M lobbying (2007)
http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D8VGPUP80.htm

The nuclear energy industry's main trade group spent $1.3 million to lobby the federal government in 2007, according to a disclosure form.

<snip>

The group, whose members include Duke Energy Corp., Exelon Corp. and PPL Corp., spent $620,00 in the second half of 2007, according to the lobbying form posted online Feb. 13 by the Senate's public records office.

Last year, a handful of power companies submitted the first applications for new nuclear reactors in the U.S. in nearly 30 years, but none has committed to building the multibillion-dollar plants.

Besides Congress, the institute lobbied the White House, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Government Accountability Office and the departments of Commerce, Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, Transportation and State.

1. I don't think nuclear power will ever be what it was tooted to be years ago
too many questions and way too few answers. Its always been a subject that the folks who understand its workings find it easier to talk over our regular joes heads about rather than give straight forward answers too. I didn't trust pro-nuke people back when to tell me the truth and I won't trust them now. Let me rephrase that last part. I do trust them to lie to me now. Oh it did sound good harnessing the power of a nuclear reaction but only for a fleeting moment did it.

4. I'm glad the wind and semiconductor (solar) industries don't lobby
GE, Gamesa, Nippondenso, National Semiconductor ... where would we be without responsible, progressive corporate citizens such as these?
