NJ Transit Gets Solar Power
http://www.njbiz.com/article.asp?aID=72504

NJ Transit will create one of the largest solar-power installations in the state and produce clean, renewable electricity at its huge locomotive and railroad car maintenance facility in Kearny, under a plan approved yesterday by NJ Transit's Board of Directors.

The solar power system is expected to reduce the transportation agency's utility bills by $90,000 per year. The $1.57 million construction costs will be fully covered by a rebate sponsored by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the agency said.

“Consistent with Gov. (Jon) Corzine’s mandate, we are actively looking for new ways to benefit the environment, from new buses with the latest emission-control technology to this solar-power system that reduces dependence on fossil fuel,” said Kris Kolluri, NJ Transit chairman and state Transportation Commissioner .
