Europeans know.

Why settle for a mundane, 3,000 lb behemoth car or truck (even if it has an electric or hybrid power plant)? What other vehicle can you "recharge" with a sports drink and a power bar?

1. Fred Flintstone meets the 21st century! This is great!

But why don't US companies invent these types of products? Not just the auto makers, but good ole' ingenious individuals?

We've got to get our brains geared up again & turn off the TV & video games & stop "shoppin' 'til we drop"!

3. Our culture.
I live on a small country road. And I simply cannot ride my bike the one mile that it takes to get to where I am going. I have to drive. If you were in one of those, the chances are very good that you would die, in America. And it's not just that they don't see. They don't want the competition. It's weird. I commuted by bike for over ten years. People become part machine when they get in cars. They gain great power when they get in cars. It's a sickness.

There are a hell of a lot of great things going on in the bike "industry" right now. Do a search on Interbike or Eurobike. You'll see zillions of neat little bike companies. Milwaukee supposedly has a large fraction of bike commuters.

A friend of mine was hit by a car a few weeks ago. The guy claims that he didn't see him. Hey, it was a miracle he even stopped his damn car to see what he hit.

And we also don't have the infrastructure. I remember learning that France has separate roads for their mopeds and bikes. That was back in the early 70's. I was lucky enough to grow up in Palo Alto, where they converted the whole town to bike lanes and curb ramps at each intersection.

We're a sick county. Addicted. And only those who have gotten out of their cars know it. In other words, almost nobody knows. We're killing people because of it.

2. At $9,200....
wouldn't I be better off with a bike? Maybe a used
bike?

It's pretty, and I guess it would keep the rain off, but
I would think it would be a lot hotter than a bike during
summer weather.

4. Bike prices really are high.
I just bought a mountain bike that was nearly seven grand. It's a lot of cutting edge engineering and manufacturing. I do find it hard to believe the prices are so high. They'll come down. Everything is going to carbon fiber. And that will cut down on manufacturing cost.

And the idea of "sharing" the road with cars is like playing Russian roulette. It's not something that would work in this power crazed country. But it's a dream I would like to see come to fruition sooner rather than later. People don't know what they're missing. Including good health.
