Ford is recalling almost two million Ford Explorers, Mercury Mountaineers and Crown Victorias.
The National Highway Traffic Safety administration said the auto manufacturer is recalling more than 1.5 million Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers made between 1998 and 2001 because a bolt could fracture in the seat backs. The seat could fall back, increasing the risk of a driver losing control. Dealers will replace the bolt with a metal one.
Ford is recalling another 448,500 Explorers and Mountaineers because the speed control cables could malfunction, increasing braking distance. Dealers will inspect the cables and replace them if necessary.
