I.D. (Intellectual Disconnect): "Why the hurry?" / "Why'd he wait?"
Intellectual Disconnect on display.

The talking points conflict:

"Why is Obama signing it so quickly? What is the rush? WE DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO READ THE BILL!" ... despite the fact that we know every piece of PORK in it!)

versus

"Why'd he wait until Tuesday to sign it? If this was a dire need, why didn't he sign it immediately???"

The ReRushicans really demand that the population don't pay attention to what they say ...

1. Unfortunately, a large part of the population doesn't

For example, I was on jury duty today and was fortunate enough to be at a court that had PC's and the Internet available.

The woman next to me kept sighing and mumbling in an obvious attempt to get my attention. I finally succumbed and she began complaining about the stimulus bill and how "porkulous" it was. I replied that the real "pork" had been in the Bailout and that this bill would at least create jobs. I asked what "pork" she was referring to and she, surprisingly" couldn't come up with any.

A few hours later she nudged me and showed me a Fox news report on Pork in the bill. I looked at it and told her that I didn't consider Fox to be a reliable source at all but that even what they were reporting as "pork" (battered woman's shelters, children's funds, etc.) were not really "pork" but that I agreed that they probably weren't stimulus either and probably didn't belong in the same bill. (Trying my best to give her something.)

She then went on to say that the thing that really bothered her the most was that people who didn't pay taxes at all could get money back. I replied that anyone who works or buys anything in our state pays plenty of taxes and that the poor pay a tax on 100% of their income since they spend it all just to survive.

She had no reply to that so she turned to the "liberal" media. That nearly left me speechless but I did manage a "ha" and a chuckle. She then stated that we no longer should speak to which I graciously agreed.

It is amazing just how the right wing has mesmerized there sheep into repeating there talking points no matter how illogical they may be.

3. I feel for you. I had to serve on a jury a while ago with a guy I could tell was a wingnut
because whenever we were waiting around with nothing to do, he'd be reading this well-known piece of wingnut Armageddon-type literature. He was a bore, too--one of those people who thinks he has more entertaining stories to recount than anyone else and makes sure he's head raconteur of any group. If we all got to talking with each other, he invariably dominated the conversation with his own stories and beliefs. Sure enough, he worked his conservative beliefs into his opinions about the case and the people involved in it. I just tried to fade back and disappear into the woodwork. You could tell just about everyone else did too.
