RAM - Remote Area Medical (as featured on 60 Minutes)

60 Minutes just featured this organization that provides free medical services for people who have fallen through the cracks of our dysfunctional medical/insurance system. Originally this group went to remote parts of the world (third world countries) to provide these services. But now they work almost exlclusively within the U.S.!! Founder, Stan Brock, says that their primary source of income is from small donors rather than corporations, and they also rely on the goodwill of doctors to volunteer their services. When they show up in an area hundreds and hundreds of people show up, as you might imagine. Stan Brock himself lives in an abandoned school which he's allowed to rent for $1 a month, and showers with a hose outside. He's truly a remarkable, dedicated and caring individual....71 years old....

2. Interesting juxtapostion of this story with the one about the multi-million$ ray gun
one of the Pentagon's many expensive toys while our Vets, themselves, go without good medical assistance. Does anyone wonder why this country is broke? What have our priorities been?
