Tom DeLay underfire for multiple ethics scandals. KEEP THE HEAT ON!
DeLay is starting to feel the heat from the investigations into several objectionable actions by the House Majority Leader. The bi-partisan House Ethics Committee has been so alarmed by DeLay's actions, that they have issued a stunning SECOND admonishment to him, in one week.

Here's a link to the admonishment from earlier this week:

http://www.freep.com/news/mich/ethics1e_20041001.htm

This first scandal is about DeLay's attempt to bribe one of the Republican House members to change his vote in favor of Bush's medicare prescription drug bill last year. When Rep. Smith of Michigan refused to change his vote, Tom DeLay, and Rep. Candice S. Miller - (R), Michigan, threatened to throw their support behind a different candidate who was going to run for Smith's seat upon his retirement. (Rep. Smith's son Brad had already announced plans to run for that seat - he lost)

Here's a link to today's admonishment:

"The lawmaker from Sugar Land was cited for apparently linking political donations to legislation and for recruiting federal aviation officials to help search for Texas House members who fled Austin last year.
Action on a third allegation involving DeLay's political fund-raising practices was deferred until a criminal investigation under way in Austin runs its course."

Judicial Watch has called for DeLay to resign over the mounting scandals:

http://www.judicialwatch.org/printer_3844.shtml

"Judicial Watch, the conservative public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today called on Rep. Tom DeLay to step down as House Majority Leader in the wake of the bipartisan House Ethics Committee’s recent findings that he acted improperly in attempting to win a vote from Rep. Nick Smith in exchange for endorsing Smith’s son in a congressional primary. It is the second time that DeLay has been chastised by the ethics panel.
“Frankly, the ethics report was too kind to Mr. DeLay and the other House members implicated in the controversy. Mr. DeLay’s actions in trying to trade a political endorsement for a vote were inappropriate and unacceptable, and given this grave ethical lapse, he should step down as Majority Leader. The Republican Party should not countenance its leadership violating House rules and standards of ethical behavior,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton."

DUers and other Democrats should now seize this opportunity and MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD. We should write letters to our hometown newspapers and we should call radio stations, and let them know that we do not think Tom DeLay is fit to sit in the Congress anymore. The number of scandals continues to mount, and it's inevitable that DeLay will have to resign, at least as Majority leader, if not resign from the Congress entirely.

The timing could not be better for we Democrats. Every single Republican in the House of Representatives voted to make Tom DeLay the majority leader. He is the new Newt Gingrich, and he should be hung around the necks of Republican Representatives, like an albatross.
A good talking point might be: "Rep. So and So SAYS that he's a moderate and that he supports {insert locality name here} families, but when he cast his vote for House Majority Leader, Rep. So and So voted for Tom DeLay! Now we find out that, Tom DeLay has been wrapped up in several scandals including attempted misappropriation of taxpayer funds, attempted bribery, and even extortion. Tell Rep. So and So that you think he was wrong to vote for Tom DeLay. Then ask him why he continues to support Rep. DeLay in spite of all the mounting evidence of wrong-doing. Vote for {insert name of local Democrat here}. She/He promises NEVER to vote for an un-ethical leader like Tom DeLay."

Here's a good link for those that feel the need to keep an eye on Tom DeLay:

1. Would real Christian justice here be to castrate Tom Delay for...
...his blasphemous crimes?

4. Unfortunately, an admonishment...
... is less severe than a slap on the wrist. Considering that the allegations were criminal in nature, an admonishment is along the lines of "if we sent this to an independent prosecutor (which we won't do because we're afraid of you), you might get jail time, but we're letting you off."

DeLay has spent exactly zero time worrying about this.

Which is why I wonder why both national and the Texas Democratic Party haven't been giving DeLay's opponent a lot more help. As long as there's a Republican majority in the House, the only way to get rid of DeLay is to vote him out.

The last poll I can find was July, putting Morrison ten points down. Haven't been able to find a more recent one. Hope the situation has improved since then.

5. Thats OK
we can prosecute him here. Three of his former aids are indicted and booked for campaign finance law violations. The Travis Co DA will be contacting him in good time. All in good time.
