Gingrich Snow-job regarding Abu Ghraib prison scandal
Here's an excerpt from Newt (i.e.: small, slimy lizard) Gingrich's appearance on the OReally Factor, guest host Tony Snow-job.

GINGRICH: But remember, this is also only in the last three years that we've come to grips with the fact that we're fighting opponents who routinely violate the rules of war. Opponents who last Sunday killed a woman and four children -- five children in Israel. She was pregnant. They killed -- they deliberately went out of their way to shoot the baby. She was eight months pregnant. And we're against opponents who drag American corpses through the streets in Fallujah. We're against opponents who kill an Italian hostage on videotape.

SNOW: OK, we...

GINGRICH: So I think you got to start with -- that doesn't mean we should break the rules of law, but it does mean that these are not normal military prisoners...

SNOW: Right...

GINGRICH: ...and that we are not going to be handled.

OK... so far, just the usual crap: Why all the hub-bub over abusing the terrorist animals in that prison? Newt, apparently, hasn't pulled his head far enough out of his ass to hear about the ICRC report that claims 70-90% of the prisoners are there for no good reason. But check out Snow-jobs next line:

SNOW: That's right, that part of Abu Ghraib prison was set aside for people who, as you pointed out, are terrorists.

First of all, that's a big leap of logic to interpret Gingrich's "not normal military prisoners" comment in such a manner.

But my question... is there any sort of documentation that anyone, anywhere, at any time, mentioned that those abused prisoners were most definitely terrorists and put into a special wing of the prison specifically designated for terrorists? Really, this is news to me!

Or (as I suspect) is Snow-job just living up to his name?

1. Somebody killed someone in Israel, so it's OK to abuse prisoners in Iraq?
Hey, if someone is to be tried for US war crimes, then it should obviously be ... President Vicente Fox of Mexico.

Well, the logic is at least as good as Snow's.

3. Yeah, I think you understand!
Now listen, we need to blow up some six year old kids in Iraq, because Osama bin Laden, working from Afganistan, sent Islamic fundamentalist terrorists from Saudi Arabia (who hated Saddam's secular regime) to kill 3000 Americans on 9/11. Got that?

2. There is no evidence of that. What there is evidence of is that lots of
innocent Iraqis were swept up and detained for long periods of time and some of them were abused. Many were released after the scandal began to unfold.
