but Blix doesn't fall for it.

Former chief United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix, in the midst of a whirlwind publicity tour to plug his new book, "Disarming Iraq," pulled out of a scheduled appearance Thursday night on WGN-AM 720 once he learned he would have to share the air with pro-war polemicist Richard Perle.

Blix had been slated to join Milt Rosenberg on "Extension 720," which airs weeknights from 9 to 11 p.m.

"We had him scheduled," said Rosenberg, "but I thought I'd like to have another discussant."

Blix, who was derided before the war as ineffective by Bush administration supporters including Perle, argues in his book that war could have been averted had he been allowed to continue his job.

"We told his publicist we'd have someone else on, but we didn't say who," Rosenberg said.
