Cable NEws ratings - enemic at best
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 03:02 PM by samsingh
i'm not sure what else i need to include, but here are the latest cable news ratings -Source: Drudge

FNC O'REILLY 1.6
FNC HANNITY/COLMES 1.4
FNC GRETA 1.3
FNC SHEP SMITH 1.2
FNC BRIT HUME 1.1
CNN LARRY KING LIVE 0.8
CNN AARON BROWN 0.5
CNN PAULA ZAHN 0.4
MSNBC HARDBALL 0.4
MSNBC OLBERMANN 0.3
MSNBC ABRAMS 0.3
BUCHANAN/PRESS 0.2
SCARBOROUGH 0.2

These are anemic at best and translate to only a few million viewers. in a population of 250,000,000 - this easily equates to the fringe crowd. Most of this is splitting the small right wing viewership. Buffy, at her worst, did better than the top FNC program.

Any broadcaster wanting to make money should consider going back to honest news reporting, instead of providing entertainment programs for the right wing.

Paul Zahn and under round off to 0!

1. Oreilly leads at 1.6, that's pathetic
that's nobody, I mean a west coast Mets game will do better over here and it's also on cable.

Scarborough at 0.2, please pull the plug on this fascist.

3. Gave them up
I used to watch CNN up until a few years ago when they redesigned it. Then came the fall of the media to the Bush regime. It's boring at best to watch these people spew their vile. The breathless reporting, the bs, the "fair and accurate", who needs to listen to this crap.

7. Network news programs score a .6.0+ rating on average
i think the difference is that cable news from fox grew rapidly, but that rate cannot be sustained. Seeing the growth caused other cable networks to try and match the right wing approach. but that market is limited in size.

13. some slack
I tend to cut CNN/MSNBC a little slack for losing to FAUX since they have other cable news stations.

14. These numbers are so bad...one has to think they are being kept on
by some interesting accounting. Or, by some interests who are happy to chip in some advertising dollars when the cables complain......

That's the big problem. Also that these folks have such a loud voice in our political discussion it would seem....or maybe not. Maybe the Polling groups and the cables are a little "inside the beltway or inside the Repug/Corporate beltway" and not the true reflection of the angry folks out there in America.

Another thought: Maybe all the intelligent folks are on the internet like us....and it's the Ignorant Cable Junkies who are running the show but not seeing the "Silent Internet Poser" which is reflected in the surge of Hoard Dean which seems to have been a big surprise to most of the media and Beltway pundits.

Just thoughts here about those shocking numbers for shows which are so "loud and in your face."

17. i think ratings represent % of households available to be
tuned in at a particular time. I don't know if it represents an exact number of people though.

15. Good points, but I would be curious what percentage of all people
watching news do these ratings represent? I'm guessing it's a fairly large chunck, say 20%?
