10. Please Go Watch THIS Google video too and send link to your friends...
If we can move Unseen Al Gore Campaign Video to the Top 100 on Google, then 10,000's of people will see it. It is by someone who worked on the movie "On Being John Malkovich." This movie is the *real* Gore -- if it had shown prior to 2000 then there would've been enough Dem voters around the nation to overcome the GOP's ability to steal votes (as it existed in 2000). The Dem strategists/handlers did not want it shown - it wasn't the 'right image' -- another GREAT reason to fire all the asshole strategists/handlers.

:bounce:

Also come hang out in the Al Gore '08 Group Forum.

The more the merrier!

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the Upper Peninsula is my favorite backpacking destination in the Midwest. However, it wasn't cold enough when I went the first weekend of last October -- daytime highs in the upper 70's and the biting black flies hadn't entirely disappeared yet.

There is always 2008. Who knows but that the experience of the debacle of 2000 will only serve to make him even better than he would have been if he'd been elected then? And am I to understand that even freepers liked his SNL appearance? Could it be? *starts dreaming*

42. Did you see This Week this morning?
During the round table discussion, at the very end everyone seemed to be talking about Hillary's inevitability and then one of them said, "Unless Al Gore decides to run." and there was immediate general agreement. Al Gore is definitely the Democratic heavyweight now, as well as being someone who would make a great president. I say "great" advisedly, because the next one has to be great, or be a total failure. Mediocre isn't going to make it with the mess we've got.

Mediocrity won't cut it. I think Al Gore is going to be just what we will need to get started on the long, hard task of getting Bush's mess cleaned up. It will take many years, but eight years of Gore would go a very long way.

46. sadly, AOL
Edited on Sun May-14-06 12:01 PM by themartyred
which recently had polls about Bush, and they were heavily AGAINST his actions, also had a poll asking if Al Gore should run again for President, and well over the majority, like 62% said NOOOOOOOOOO!

That was heartbreaking, because, you'd think with all the crap Bush has done, and knowing we could've had Gore (or Kerry for that matter), that Americans would say, oh gosh yes, RUN AL!

So, not everyone is a big Al fan... I didn't really like his blandness in 2000, and I think he was the sitting VP and felt he had to act Presidential, and here he was running against a total HICK of a "man" and if he only knew that Shrubya would've been in for 2 terms, would've lightened up and also attacked him more for being "rather unfit for office", cause obviously, even the slightest bit of an improvement in Florida would have won it for Al, as I feel their vote skimming wasn't in full effect like it was in 04, because there's no F'n way Bush won FL this time by hundreds of thousands of votes, I volunteered in a Republican district on election day to greet for Kerry, and MORE people honked and waved for me, than did for the Bush guy, and he even said, "well we're going to lose if you ask me".

72. Nope. Most assuredly disagree
As long as Al keeps that twinkle in his eye while he does stuff like this, I don't think he need to do an Oscar winning performance. I think his consultants back in 2000 tried to get him to "act" in different ways, and the media was very quick to jump on that and villify him. The RW are great at getting actors to play the role of leader -- Reagan and Bush -- but I for one am ready for the real deal, and in my book that's Al Gore.

I think the analysis at DailyKos is spot on -- The Colbert Effect: Al Gore Gets It. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2625235

105. I respectfully disagree, completely with that take on him.
I just watched the long 'campaign video' that's on Google video. It shows Al Gore around his family, doing an interview, etc. Al Gore was not a different person in 2000, he was always the same person. Serious, funny, gallant, good, and passionate. YOu have to really see that video to understand him. His kiss of Tipper you refered to was NOT out of character for him. They are quite smoochy.. His life is not stiff or fastidious, they look like an average family. His performance, so to speak, in the 2000 campaign was the result of bad handlers and bad PR. He was always himself, but was told he had to act differently to seem presidential or something. He was attacked and mocked and turned into a caricture BY the republicans, to an extent FAR BEYOND anything that his handlers had wrought on his personality. That's what the repubs do best, they ridicule, they are childish, they are mean.

Regarding last night's video? Couldn't disagree with you more. It was brilliant, and funny, and it turned a lot of people on to him again. It's being sent around the 'net like wildfire. It shows humor.. he can laugh at himself, that's a good thing. I love Al Gore's passion, and I love that he really let loose with it after the 2000 theft of the election. I wouldn't have him change a thing.. not a thing.

51. Where did he get a personality? And a sense of humor?
These are qualities he never had before. And the speech (undoubtedly not written by the DLC's highly-paid speechwriters) actually had more bite and criticism against the Republicans than anything else he's said or done in the last seven years.

It still isn't campaign material, and it still isn't enough to make me happy enough to vote for him, but it's a very positive sign.

62. he always had a sense of humor and a "personality"...
it's just that Donna Bizarre and Cece Connelly were brilliant in their efforts to elect Dubya on behalf of the DLC and RNC respectively.

or haven't you been curious enough about Al Gore to find out for yourself if he HAS a sense of humor or a "personality", instead of buying whole hog the liberal media bias that he's stiff and humorless? :sarcasm:

yup- welcome to the real Al Gore! :headbang:

114. I'm not a fanboy. Like all voters, I'm an employer.
Listen, Mr. Sarcasm, I evaluate these candidates, not by what their supporters say, but how they appear. Like a personnel director, I evaluate the person I see, not the person his buddies say he is.

There are too many people here who treat their favorite candidate like comic book fans treat their characters. Superman versus Spider-Man, Wonder Woman versus Vampirella. I don't glom over the character concept and appearance, I read the story.

And you're right, those stories were written by the highly-paid consultants - who, by the way, rob campaigns of a good percentage of their money, regardless of their success or failure rate. But the way I see it, the candidate can accept or reject the advice of consultants. That Gore did in 2000 didn't speak well of his sensibility.

So maybe he wised up. Maybe he's more of his own man now - and maybe he'll manage to remain his own man if he becomes the Presidential candidate this time around, although I fear the consultants will do their "makeovers" again. So save your dripping blood for another message. You might need it if the DLC retains power.

Edited on Mon May-15-06 06:29 PM by stlsaxman
i have a mint condition Spiderman Number 1 but I've never opened it to read it. Don't want to break the spine.

over the last 5 years or so i have seen and/or read most all of Al Gores speeches. they are nothing like the MSM has made him out to be. i apologize, Sir, it seems you are not the only one who sees him as lacking personality- the love of my life said that very thing to me the other day. i asked her to watch and listen to some of his speeches he has made over the last few years and now has quite a different view of the man. i believe you would too.

121. Thanks for the recognition, and not just on my behalf
"Fanboy" is generally considered detrimental. It describes a person's unwholesome and unjustified obscession with something. For instance, I noticed that you mis-spelled the name. It's "Spider-Man," not "Spiderman." A fanboy would scream at you for that. And they might berate you about whether this is the Todd McFarlane "Amazing Spider-Man #1" or the first issue the character appeared in, an original "Amazing Fantasy #15."

And that leads into the point. It seems that Al Gore has come to some understanding as to why he didn't connect with the voters. He's realized he had strengths that either he undervalued, or that the consultants didn't understand. He seems to have changed for the better.

However, there are people - call them Gore Fanboys - who never stopped believing in him, who saw virtues that were lost on an awful lot of Americans. And that was before the Republicans did their massive vote fraud campaign with Diebold. There are those who are getting ready to sneer to people who might consider Gore in the future saying, "Where were you, you traitors? I never lost faith! I still wear the same underwear I wore when I first met him! I love Gore and you don't!"

It's precisely that kind of fanboy behavior that nobody needs, especially not Gore.

124. I believe I apologized for my sarcasm in my first post.
But I don't remember calling you a traitor. If you are considering Gore in the future, then you might consider taking the advice I gave in the second reply to you and watch/read Gore's speeches (which he wrote himself, by the way) over the last 5 years and decide for yourself if you can or cannot give him your support. That's all.

Take care.

125. It's his future, not his past, that counts now.
He is showing promising signs of being a viable candidate. It's what he does now that will determine whether he gets my vote, or anyone else's. If you read the "Shallow Throat" post on the main page, you see the kind of activism Gore will have to take. He will have to be public, firm, constantly on the attack, and most of all, giving no quarter to the Bush Administration.

I'll be watching during the 2006 elections. If he joins...or better yet, leads...a reinvigorated Democratic party, he may just be the next President. I will be holding my breath, and hoping that I don't have to release it in a sigh of despair.

115. Saw the SNL video. It was very cheering.
As I've said in the other responses, this is an Al Gore that's been invisible.

Personally, I think it's part of a movement that started when Michael Moore got his Oscar years ago, and deliberately slammed Bush. He was the first person to speak out on the national stage. Then Jon Stewart facing off against the pundits, then Colbert. People are no longer afraid to speak out, afraid to tell jokes, afraid to speak truth to power.

And it's about freaking time.

85. Apparently you haven't listened to a word Al Gore has said in the last
Edited on Sun May-14-06 07:00 PM by NNadir
seven years. You are completely unfamiliar with the record.

For the record, Mr. Gore was speaking out against the war while Ralph Nader was speaking out against NBA officiating. He was speaking out against the war when it was enormously popular.

He was speaking out against the destruction of our constitution and was on the ground in New Orleans while Ralph Nader was whining about Terrell Owen's contract from his corporate (probably provided by Time Warner) luxury box.

It seems to me that so called "leftists" who make their (pixilated) vision of perfect the enemy of the good, (in Al Gore's case, exceptionally good) make me puke, almost as much as the Repukes themselves. To a man and woman, almost all of them spout the Repuke media propaganda that "Al Gore has no sense of humor," "Al Gore has no personality."

The flip side of that fucking nonsense is the Repuke media manufactured lie that George W. Bush has a personality and a sense of humor and is a "regular guy."

Bullshit.

Vote willingly for whatever fucking asshole makes you happy. You don't make a fucking difference anyway.

112. Bitter much?
I'm sorry I haven't been a lapdog for every failed Presidential candiate the Democrats have fielded. I've paid repsectful attention when they campaigned - when they supposedly put their best face forwaard. I even voted for them, even if I thought they stunk, because I know what Republicans are like.

However, before you snarl at me again, think about it - how smart were they if they believed the words of their consultants rather than their own inner voice and convictions? That's the attitude of stupid businessmen and egomaniacal stars. And especially after those consultants failed so many times, and got hired again by the DLC and DNC to waste the campaign's money time after time. They weren't their own men on the stump, and the public knew it, which is why the elections were so close.

All I'm saying is that Gore almost looks like a viable candidate, after years of being "Algore the Donkey, the Source of the Wind." I gave him the first complement he's ever rightfully earned since his campaign crashed. So get your ingrown toenail taken care of and calm down.

116. If there's a lapdog here, it isn't Al Gore.
You regurgitate CNN/Fox claptrap like a news announcer.

I am bitter about the kind of weak thinking you express, which is mere media regurgitation. Let me put it in a way that's a little less subtle, so even the most weak minded person can understand it: It's vomit.

If you think that I should dignify the dopey remark "I gave him the first complement he's ever rightfully earned since his campaign crashed. So get your ingrown toenail taken care of and calm down," with any appreciation for ability to think, reason or see, think again. Fuck you. I'm staying angry, and yes I'm angry at you because you represent exactly the reason that my country and my constitution have been destroyed: Rote knee-jerk sloganeering.

There is no evidence whatsoever that you know your ass from your elbow. You seem, once again, to have been completely clueless about politics in the last 6 years. To me, you are an automaton, and no I will not calm down, at least until my children are safe - which they are not.

I have no doubt that you think highly of yourself and your judgement. So does George W. Bush. The problem is that both your judgement and his judgement are out to lunch..

Vote for whatever fucking asshole you want to vote for. I don't give a shit. You ain't going anywhere anyway, bub. Stay the fuck home if you want. History will sweep you aside.

I couldn't help but think of that movie with Gweneth Paltrow called Sliding Doors. It shows two stories, one on whether she makes it onto the subway and one if she just misses it as the doors close. Oh, what could have been.

Though the exaggerations made this a funny skit, the reality behind it hits me hard. It also reminds me that I am embarrassed that Sandra Day O'Connor is such a hero here in Arizona. In the most important swing vote during her tenure, she dropped the ball big time.
