SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Combined advertising revenue for the ABC, CBS and NBC television networks was down 21.5% for the third quarter and 8.3% for the first nine months of 2005, according to a report Wednesday by the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association. Total net revenues of $2.2 billion for the third quarter were down by $605 million from last year, led by a $707 million decline in sports advertising, the group said. ABC is a unit of Walt Disney Co. (DIS) , CBS is a unit of Viacom Inc. (VIA) (VIAB) and NBC is a subsidiary of General Electric Co. (GE) .

...very short blurb...

5. I was JUST going to post that!
Hard to market things when the programming is garbage and you insult the intelligence of 65% of your viewers on a daily basis.

The networks wanted to kowtow and lie for the far right- and rush to the bottom with the rest of ther programming, so I shouldn't think too many of them would be surprised- but then again, it's an insular community that's become increasing isolated from what real people are thinking.

3. I *never* turn on those channels.
*Never*. They have precisely *zero* content in which I am interested. Their news sucks, *all* sitcoms suck, all network dramas *suck*, 25 minutes of loud lying commercials an hour *sucks*, etc.

When television is good, nothing--not the theater, not the magazines or newspapers--nothing is better.

But when television is bad, nothing is worse. I invite you to sit down in front of your television set when your station goes on the air and stay there without a book, magazine, newspaper, profit and-loss sheet or rating book to distract you--and keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that you will observe a vast wasteland.

4. I'd rather watch grass grow in the desert
Than watch anything those numbnuts can show on TV
