Fox slammed my nephew
OK, now it's personal.

My nephew is a great kid. When Hurricane Katrina hit, he felt very concerned, like the rest of us. He volunteered with his classmates to raise money for the Red Cross hurricane relief. They gave up their weekend to sit outside Starbucks and collect money from passers by.
A reporter from our local Fox News affiliate asked if she could interview my nephew. She said she was doing a story about how local people are pulling together to help the victims of the hurricane. He did really well in his interview.
We waited to see the 10 o'clock news, and we were taken aback. The story was NOT about thoughtful youngsters who gave their time and effort to collect money. It was a lead story titled "Beware of scam artists taking advantage of a national tragedy". They cut from my nephew's interview to the president of the Local Better Business Bureau warning comsumers about fundraising scams. What's more disturbing is that they lied to my nephew. I'm sure he tuned in to watch his interview only to be appalled by the negative coverage.

Pitiful. Going after middle school students like this is the lowest of the low. If they would have checked, they would have found out that the school sanctioned this activity. The City of Louisville gave a large number of water bottles for Zach and his friends to hand out to donors. This was certainly on the level. I guess a story about con-men and scammers is a lot more interesting than a story about good samaritans.

2. There must be some way..

..to rub their noses in this. Can you publicise it? Write a letter to your newspaper or something? demand an explanation?

8. I contacted the newsroom
I e-mailed the newsroom to complain. I also sent a note to the president of the BBB who was interviewed in the piece. I told him that his interview was creatively edited in this way. I'm waiting to hear back from him. I'm sure he didn't expect his interview to be used in this way.

7. Promoting fear. Great way to run a 'society', folks. Have fun.
Try promotiong thoughtful awareness and mercy instead.

Wait, that's too civilized.

Sorry.

10. Wow, that's sloppy journalism
Just what you would expect from a FOX affiliate.

You could also send a complaint to the FCC.

12. I personally would have told the fox reporter...
to go straight to hell. It doesn't matter, that is where they will end up in the end anyways.

14. They are angry the "Red Cross" was highlighted. Red Cross is
supposed to "go down" just like FEMA. Then all the donations go to Church groups sanctioned by the WH. As political payback.

Also - if Red Cross is made less American - the War President can make the case of not letting them into prisons.

Also - giving money to the Red Cross competes with the "goodwill" corporations want when they donate.

And you know how MBAs are taught to feel about competitors. "KILL KILL KILL".

The whole point is that human feeling is a product and should only be used during GOP election campaigns or if some corporation can translate that into goodwill or sales. Feeling in T.V. ads is good. Feeling because of humanitarian disaster that goes to governmental or NGOs is bad.
