Since when is Newsweek a publication of record?

Since MSNBC said so? Since MSNBC's and Newsweek's puppet-masters say so?

I'm just wondering because I've never considered Newsweek a notable news source. They're damn well marketed. I'll give them that. But when I was younger, it seemed like publication "of record" were heavy weights. Major, sleep-inducing heavy weights. The Economist. Financial Times. Back when publications weren't part of the corporate "synergy," there were different standards for the publications that get media attention.

this is kinda stating the obvious, but this is either:
A) an incredibly cowardly public cowering; or
B) an incredibly flagrant flaunting of corporate nepotism.
