How come Dan Rather has to go, but Brit Hume gets to stay?

Dan Rather was pressured to leave because of lack of authoritative evidence of *'s history (or lack thereof) in the Texas Air National Guard on which he based several national broadcasts on the CBS Evening News.

On the other hand, FOX News via one spokesperson/anchor, Hume, goes on the record, not just distorting, but outright lying about FDR's plan to develop Social Security. We have on record FDR's grandson, who not only is protecting his grandfather's legacy, but was also a commissioner in the Social Security agency. Doesn't that either make both Rather and Hume "guilty" of the same thing, or perhaps is Hume more contemptible for outright lying?
