Hugh Hewitt falsely claimed people under 30 will "get no money" under current Social Security system

On the February 6 edition of the syndicated Chris Matthews Show, author, Weekly Standard online columnist and nationally syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt falsely claimed that President Bush's plan to partially privatize Social Security "appeals to people who are 30 and under. ... <b>ecause they know they'll get no money if they stick with the current plan."

1. That's a fairly pervasive myth.

A lot of people actually believe that, and have for at least 10 years. SS was one of the few political issues Gen X took seriously back during the whole "slacker" myth period, precisely because we honestly thought the program would run out of money before it got to be our turn. Remember that widely quoted survey that found more under-30s believed in UFOs than in Social Security's existence by the time of their retirement?

Hugh Hewitt should goddamn know better, though, and frankly, just the sight of that SOB's smug face gives me hives. I just viscerally hate that little toady, probably more than any other RW pundit, including Hannity, Limbaugh or Coulter.
