Did Anyone See the Fox News LA Affiliate Disruption 1/21
On Friday night, I disrupted a live broadcast of the Los Angeles Fox News affiliate. I was wondering if anyone saw it. I wanted to know how much of got on air. The full details are here: http://scoobiedavis.blogspot.com/2005_01_01_scoobiedavis_archive.html#110641883666376273

BTW, I had a blast doing it.

4. Anyone remember Captain Midnight?
That was the guy who used a satellite uplink to jam HBO, with a message complaining about the high cost of the service. The FCC found the guy, and I believe he served jail time besides losing his license to broadcast forever. Uplinks now have identifier signals as required by law, so this is less likely...

...unless someone devious were to disable it, or build their own uplink without such an identifier. Difficult, but not entirely impossible.

Also, decades ago I read about a team of radicals whose main hobby was dynamiting power towers in California. (Today they're probably running the California utilities and depriving people of electrical power legally.) Anyway, they supposedly had a high-power radio transmitter that could fit into a few college dorm trunks that could effectively jam radio stations. It had a wire antenna elevated with a helium balloon. I don't know if this ever became fact, but it is technically possible. Such a station could be put in a truck, set up, do its jamming, then pull down and scram before they could be found.

I certainly DO NOT recommend anyone do this; it's not only illegal, it's really immoral to seize the airwaves - it's like a big O'Reilly "Shut up!" and about as offensive. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see some very embittered people try this sort of thing in the near future.
