GA: Michelle Nunn not running for U.S. Senate
Nunn is not going to run for the U.S. Senate, and none is the number of major candidates that the Democrats have lined up to try to succeed Zell Miller.

Michelle Nunn, the daughter of former U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.), announced Friday that she would not run for Miller's Democratic seat, which is up for election next year.

"My decision is an entirely personal one," Nunn said. "In the next few years, I believe that my primary focus is best directed toward my 11-month-old son and family."

"We think Michelle Nunn would have been a good candidate, but we respect her decision," state Democratic Party chairman Calvin Smyre said in a prepared statement. "She will provide an excellent voice in Democratic politics in the years to come. We expect to run a strong campaign for the U.S. Senate and to retain Sen. Miller's seat for the Democratic party."

Looks like we're just going to concede an open Senate seat....:puke:

1. That sucks
There is hardly anyone left. Has Michael Thurmond ruled out a run yet? He could be a good candidate. We desperately need someone or we have no chance. Mary Squires, the only current democrat running, seems unelectable.

5. No he didn't
Why don't you do a little research and find out how he really voted and how Mac Collins and Johnny Isakson have voted in the House. Then you will know who you want in the senate. Cleland isn't Zell Miller.

according to the Americans for Democratic Action

He was the most liberal senator Georgia ever had.

7. WTF are you talking about, La_Serpiente?
former Sen. Max Cleland was *not* another Zell Miller. IMHO, Zell intentionally or unintentionally sabatoged Cleland by mouthing off against the Democratic Party during Cleland's reelection campaign.

although he voted for bills appeasing * (ie. IWR, tax cuts) what do you except when you're a Senator from Georgia? Anyway, Cleland has my respect, and I hope he runs again. He has a shot at winning, especially if Clark gets the nomination.
BTW I'd love to see him get into a fight with Saxby Chambliss on the Senate floor. Cleland would run Chambliss over with his wheel-chair, and hit him over the head with a Diebold voting machine.

3. Not neccessarily...
Couldn't they now devote their efforts to encourage Max Cleland to run for the seat? I get this feeling that also factored into Michelle Nunn's decision...:eyes:

B-)
