Sen. Spector (R-PA) against Telecom Immunity
I just got off the phone with Senator Spector's office. A gentleman by the name of Samuel said the Senator thinks the immunity clause should be stripped out of the FISA bill. He plans on offering his own amendment to do just that. Of course he couldn't just support the Feingold/Lahey/Dodd amendment, but he is against immunity. We'll see how he votes though.

Depends on who talks to him last
He'll change his mind 20 times before the actual vote.

1. With Arlen, you must WAIT FOR THE VOTE. His words are meaningless.

6. That's why I said ... lets see how he votes...
But it is better that he is at least mouthing opposition to telecom immunity than not.

2. What IS the FLD Amendment?
I thought it was stripping the immunity?

BTW, Jay Rockefeller is up speaking now.

5. It is.... Spector says he is offering his own to do the same thing...
I tried to press the staffer if he would support FLD, but the staffer sucked and jived about Spector having made no statement for or against the FLD Amendment.

8. Oh please. Why would Spector need his own amendment, when the
"pros" have got what is probably the best one possible.

The "no statement" always makes me nervous. At least Liddy Dole's office told me where she stood -- in support of immunity (no surprise). In a way, I trust her more than some of the Dems - at least you know what she's going to do (even though I disagree with her 99% of the time.)

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me. :hi:

9. I asked the same question... why offer a different amendment?
But Spector is not a Dem. And for a Republican... even TALKING about immunity being a bad idea is a step in the right direction.

7. Hopefully a vote
Besides his offer says he is going to offer his own immunity stripping amendment... that might at least delay the vote again....

Spector is far from a maverick but he is at least ACTING like he's against this crap. Which is more than I can say for Reid and the rest of the so called Democratic "leadership." That's all I was saying.
