Congresswoman Diane Watson Endorses Dean
BURLINGTON--Congresswoman Diane Watson (CA-33) today endorsed Governor Dean, citing, "Governor Dean shares my position on the tough issues facing our country, including opposition to the invasion of Iraq; belief that Bush's immigration policy will create a permanent under class of service workers with second-class status; provide all higher education students with federal grants or loans, depending on family income level: and provide college loan relief for participants in an expanded AmeriCorps national service program."

"I am proud that Congresswoman Watson has joined the 575,000 Americans who want to take their country back in 2004," Governor Dean said. "During the two decades that she served in the State Senate and her time in the U.S. Congress, she has distinguished herself as an advocate of urban communities, as well as a strong voice for consumers, women and children."

From 1998 to 2001, Watson served as the United States Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia. She ran for Congress in a special election after the death of Congressman Julian Dixon, and then was reelected in 2002.

Congresswoman Watson currently serves on the International Relations and Government Reform Committees, and is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Watson also serves as a member of the Progressive Caucus and Chairs the Congressional Entertainment Caucus. Watson was recently appointed to the Executive Board of the National Democratic Committee.

Watson's 33rd District is one of the most multi cultural ethnically diverse districts in the nation. Stretching from Culver City on the West, it winds its way through historic portion of Los Angeles including such well know areas as Koreatown, Hancock Park, the Wilshire corridor and the "Miracle Mile" district, Little Armenia, Hollywood, Los Feliz and Silver Lake, Crenshaw district, Ladera Heights, Leimert Park, and south Los Angeles. It's home to the University of California and West Los Angeles College.

"I look forward to working with Governor Dean to assure that he becomes the Democratic Nominee for President send subsequent winner in November 2004," Congresswoman Watson said.

3. Wow!
I've been away from DU for a couple of days now, come back and here we have Watson and Ann Richards????

This is FANTASTIC! I had a feeling this was coming as I watched her on the dias at last year's CA Dem. Convention. She (and the others on the dias) were polite when Sen. Edwards spoke (except for the booing when he mentioned he voted for the IWR), but when Dean spoke, the mood on the dias (and in the crowd) changed from polite to energetic and enthusiastic.

Great news!
