Coalition waging fight to increase pay at A&M
Texas A&M University faculty members and local community groups are asking the university to raise the wages of its lowest-paid workers to a level above the poverty line that they say would allow a family to afford basic needs.

Some A&M employees struggle to buy enough food and provide adequate shelter for their families, according to the Living Wage Coalition of the Brazos Valley, the group behind the movement. <snip>

A living wage is considered the amount of money full-time employees must earn to stay above the federal poverty level and afford such basic necessities as housing, clothing, food and health care.

... The Bryan-College Station area’s living wage is $9.79 an hour ...
That translates to $20,363 per year ... <snip>

Good ole A&M, how I love it! Apologies to my Aggie colleagues who are also on this board, but A&M hires many minorities for the really poor paying jobs and is not interested in changing that practice. After all, they need the immense amounts of money that they make to pay the administration types who make three times what the faculty make (and that is on a bad day).
The entire institution is a shining example of Social Darwinism, and is unlikely to change.
