Question about Credit and addresses
I noticed that my next door neighbor has taken out a loan. I don't think it's a car loan but with one of those small loan places.

Reason I know this - the bills are coming to my address. We happen to have the same house number except he's at the 1/2 house (I have the whole number)

I don't mind trotting mail over to this person - I have no issue.

But I do know their house is rented and he is one of 3 recent college graduates there. And as someone who once graduated from college and had bills to deal with, I know how easy it is to get into credit troubles.

My worry is this - if this kid defaults for any reason, could the loan company go after me since my address is on the bill and I am a home owner?

Just curious.

1. No. You have no connection to the person or loan.
You're not responsible for the fact that they can't input data properly into their system.

Write them a nasty letter telling them to cease and desist sending anything to your address because there is no one at your address named debtor so and so.

3. No. I once had a roommate who had a similar name as me.
Both our first and last names were similar. After I moved to a different place, a collection agency started sending one of her bills to me because they mixed up our names. Fortunately, when I called and explained it to them, they never bothered me.

4. I don't think so unless you signed on as a co-signer
But you may end up with a pile of mail.

5. The data bases are sloppy and mistakes hang on forever. Clear it up now.

6. Take a look at your credit report and make sure that you're not being...
listed as the borrower.

You can get one free report per year from each of the three big agencies.

7. 1/2
I live at an address with a 1/2 and many computer systems can not handle the 1/2 in the address. It's a real pain in the butt.
