This Weekend's College Football Thread
Edited on Fri Nov-25-11 01:31 PM by fishwax
Plenty of great games today and tomorrow, including ...

Today:
#8 Houston at Tulsa (winner goes to the Conference USA Championship Game, and Houston has a shot at a BCS bowl)
Iowa at #21 Nebraska
#3 Arkansas at #1 LSU
Colorado at Utah (Utah goes to the Pac-12 Championship game if they win and Arizona State and UCLA both lose)
Arizona State at California (Arizona State goes to the Pac-12 Championship Game if they win this game and UCLA and Utah both lose on Saturday)

Tomorrow:
#13 Georgia at #23 Georgia Tech
#2 Alabama at #24 Auburn
#5 Virginia Tech at Virginia (winner plays Clemson in the ACC title game)
#19 Penn State at #15 Wisconsin (winner plays Michigan State in the Big 10 Championship Game)
#17 Clemson at #12 South Carolina
Oregon State at #10 Oregon (Oregon must win to go to the Pac-10 Title Game; if Oregon loses, Stanford goes to the title game)
#22 Notre Dame at #6 Stanford
UCLA at USC (If UCLA wins, they go to the Pac-12 Championship Game; if they lose, and Utah loses to California, they still go to the championship game; if UCLA wins, Utah wins, and Arizona State beats , then Arizona State wins a three-way tie with UCLA and Utah and goes to the championship game)

My Sooners play Iowa State Saturday. The Illini have a chance to end a 5-game losing streak against Minnesota.

So who does your team play? what games are you looking forward to?

1. Conference Title Pictures (from simplest to most convoluted)
Edited on Fri Nov-25-11 02:04 PM by fishwax

ACC
Clemson has won the Atlantic Division.

The winner of Saturday’s game between Virginia and Virginia Tech wins the Coastal Division.

Big 10
Michigan State has won the Legends Division.

The winner of the Wisconsin-Penn State game wins the Leaders Division

Big 12
If Iowa State beats Oklahoma Saturday, Oklahoma State wins the conference title.

If Oklahoma wins Saturday, next week’s Bedlam Game between OU and OSU is for the conference title.

SEC
Georgia has won the East Division.

LSU wins the West Division if they beat Arkansas on Friday.
Arkansas wins the West if they beat LSU on Friday and Alabama loses to Auburn on Saturday.
If Arkansas and Alabama both then Arkansas, LSU, and Alabama will be tied for the lead, and the BCS rankings would determine who goes to the championship.

In the case of a three-way tie, the SEC removes the lowest-ranked team from consideration and then uses the head-to-head result to determine the winner. Presumably Arkansas will jump LSU if they win, so it will depend on who is ranked higher between LSU and Alabama. If Arkansas and Alabama are the top two, then Alabama goes; if Arkansas and LSU are the top two, then Arkansas goes.

Pac 12
If Oregon beats Oregon State, they win the North Division. If they lose to OSU, then Stanford wins the North Division.

USC has won the South Division, but is ineligible for the Conference Championship Game, so either UCLA, Utah, or Arizona State will play in the championship game.

UCLA goes with either a win against USC on Saturday or a Utah loss to Colorado on Friday.

Utah goes if they win, UCLA loses, and Arizona State loses to California on Friday.

Arizona State goes if they win, Utah wins, and UCLA loses.

Big East
There are two teams at 4-2 (Rutgers and Louisville), three teams at 3-2 (Cincinnati, West Virginia, and Pitt), and one team at 2-3 (Connecticut). I believe all six still have a shot to win. Theoretically, there could be a five- or six-way tie.

Rutgers plays their final game Saturday against Connecticut. If they win, they are league champions if Louisville loses their final game and if West Virginia loses one of their two remaining games. If they lose, they might still have some slim shot at the title, I don’t know.

Louisville plays their final game against South Florida Friday. If they win and Cincinnati and Pitt both lose at least one more game, then Louisville wins the Big East title.

Cincinnati has games against Syracuse and Connecticut. They lost to Rutgers and West Virginia, so if the Bearcats win and both those teams lose, then Cincinnati wins the Big East.

WVU has games against Pitt and South Florida. If they win both of those games, then they win the Big East title if Louisville loses today to South Florida.

Pitt has games against WVU and Syracuse. They already lost to Rutgers and Cincinnati, so if both those two teams get one more loss and Pitt wins their remaining games, then Pitt will be champions.

Connecticut has games against Rutgers and Cincinnati. If they win both games and the other three teams all lose one more game, there could be a six-way tie. I don’t know if there are any scenarios that UConn could actually win the tie-breaker, though.

9. depending on your internet service, you may be able to get it through
ESPN 3: http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/source/espn3/

It's not available through all ISP's, though, because ESPN charges the service provider to make it available. If that link works for you, the game should be available on there tonight, I think ...

5. I'll be getting up at 4:15am...
to watch the Sun Devils play (9 hours time difference), but it could get pretty ugly. Erickson has always allowed the team to be completely undisciplined, but lately they also seemed utterly unprepared. There's talent on the team, but no control.

His time may very well be up, even if they stumble into the conference championship game.

Go Devils!

20. The Wesley Wolverines are going . . . down
Although, once again the NCAA shows its bias against the West Coast as the undefeated Linfield Wildcats are forced to travel across the country to play the one-loss Wolverines. The game starts at the ungodly hour of 9 a.m., which is hardly enough time to get my buzz going. Looks like corn flakes and Coors for the pre-game warm up.

Go Cats!

Cats fumble the kickoff to start the second half, give up a gimme six points. 27-14.

But you can't keep a good team down. They're back and driving in the red zone.

34. Wisconsin 45 - Penn State 7
Wisconsin will play Michigan State for the Big 10 Championship next weekend.

TPenn State interim coach Tom Bradley was frustrated by turnovers and poor tackling—but insists that his team deserves to go to a bowl game despite a scandal that has tainted the entire program.

“They didn’t have anything to do with it,” Bradley said. “They weren’t involved in any way. And I think they deserve an opportunity to play in a bowl.”

They went for a two point conversion and succeeded and now they went for a 4th and Goal and got the TD.

I actually kinda feel bad as a USC fan at this lack of sportsmanship. I didn't go to SC, but growing up in SoCal you pick a side and growing up in Pasadena you especially get into the rivalry with the Rose Bowl game. My apologies to UCLA.
