That's a remake of the very first Hollywood feature film, also directed by De Mille, way back in 1914.

He also reshot it in 1918, for some reason. Weird, eh?

2. At first I thought it was being extreme to a point

But then I noticed the De Mille name attached to the show.

More of the plot: man decides to give up child to girlfriend who finds him...even though it isn't her child. The main reason: she can bring him up in a "pure" background.

It's unusual that you see old films like this in rotation, even on TCM.

Maybe that's why it's on so late/early.

Could be that the film came up in the rotation, and they shuffled it off to the wee hours for that reason?
