Inside of the new house. (Pic heavy!)
Edited on Fri Sep-02-11 03:45 PM by GreenPartyVoter
These pics were shot with a wide angle lens, so there's a bit of fun-house effect going on. The ceilings aren't vaulted, and the rooms aren't nearly as long as the camera makes them look. Sorry for any pics which are incorrectly oriented or weirdly sized. Photobucket is giving me a hard time with that today! (Pics and videos of of the house being set on the foundation are in their own threads.)

4. At least a month. There's still electric and heating/plumbing to finish (septic too) and a
roof and bay window to build, plus painting, tiling, and hardwood. Oh, and there's no stairs into the basement yet. How could I forget that? :P

8. So far, it's amazing! Ironically I want so much to share the experience with my parents, but
if they were still here we wouldn't be getting the house. (I like to think they are aware of what's going on, but it's not the same as having them over to visit. Mom would have loved helping me decorate, and for that matter so would have hubby's mom. :()

15. Yes, they would. :^) I will definitely enjoy living there, and I have many items I've inherited from
em to help decorate the place so it will feel like they are around.

14. Oh sweetie, have a special night...just you and the hubby and..
the boys and invite the loving warmth of the memory of your parents to join in.

Just think the boys will be bringing their families to this home
and so on...

Beautiful home.

12. Thanks! We had a hard time trying to work that master bath out. The original

generic plans for the house had it looking like this:

But I didn't like the idea of walking into the vanity, we wanted a private water closet, and the shower was not a good fit for a woman of my size. So we sacrificed a lot of the walk-in closet to get that shower and water closet.

As for landscaping, other than sodding some of the front and back yard for the kids to have play space, we haven't really decided on much. I have perennials I am going to move with me, but we are having trouble agreeing on shrubs and so forth. I think we will have to check out some landscape places and see what we like and what will survive our family. :) In theory there will be a patio out back. I guess we will have all winter to figure that one out.

27. Yall must have pushed out the sides
Made the total length and width bigger? Yours seems to be about half again bigger over the whole house.

I like your design better than the stock. Huge Walk in closets seem odd to me. I always want to put my bed in the closet, and have the bedroom proper to use for something else.

32. Yep. We went up to a 32 foot width. The base model is 28, and I know from living in a 14 ft wide
trailer that the rooms are pretty narrow. An extra 2 feet makes a huge difference. :)

I agree with you on the closet thing. I don't own a lot of clothes and I wasn't planning on storing other things in there, except towels and linens, so I didn't need a monster closet. I have two nice dressers and plenty of room in the bedroom for most of my clothes anyway.

13. Are you doing a checkerboard pattern with the tiles in the foyer? Cause that would be gorgeous!
I love floorplans. That's the main reason why I read the NYtimes magazine.

18. That would be very pretty! I think, though, the tile hubby bought is grey, although he
was toying with the idea of doing a pattern of some sort. I bet it all depends on how rushed he feels to get into the house! LOL Might end up with plain old tile if he's really anxious to move in.

23. It just looks wonderful, my dear GPV!
I love watching new houses go up...

When we built ours, I was here every day, taking pictures! I must have taken 1000! (Our house is a little bigger!)

I'm really happy for all of you...

You have waited a very long time for this, and moving in will be so sweet!

-- guitars, drums, amps -- in there, which is on the other side of his house, away from everything else.

"Man room" --

25. I'm so thrilled for you! And it's really coming along quickly (maybe not fast enough for you)!
It looks like a lot of thought was put into the plans. You've got lots of kitchen cabinets, lots of big windows in the living/dining rooms, laundry room with utility sink, a nice master bathroom, PLUS a spacious attic AND a basement!

Looking good. I look forward to all your updates, so thanks for posting!

30. Any kitchen with a window over the sink is a fine kitchen.
You'll have a real pantry too!

Your boys must be really excited about all that new elbow room too. That's probably the worst thing about trailers -- they're so economical on space that there's usually not much room for little kids to play or older kids to have some privacy.

35. The trailer was fine when the kids were small. We are lucky in that it's an
80's model, so it's very efficient in how the space is laid out. (Not like the old ones with the long skinny hallway.) But yeah, the kids are very ready to have their own rooms now. :D
